The next day was Constanze's last day at the bakery before leaving for Barcelona with Thiago. And when she came in, she felt really sad to know that it was the last time that she was doing that before a week. It was the first time that she would be leaving the bakery since she was really working here. She knew that her parents and brother would be totally okay without her, though.
"Stop feeling guilty, Constanze," her mother smiled when she saw the look on her daughter's face, "you deserve a break, you work all the time."
"That's not true, I don't work on Monday, and sometimes on Sunday, and—"
"You basically work all the time," Mark cut her, and she sighed.
"Yeah, alright. But it feels weird to know that I won't for a whole week. I love baking," she pouted.
"Well, a week is just training," he winked, and their mother frowned.
"Training? Training for what? Are you thinking of leaving us?" Anneliese looked at Constanze, and she shook her head, mentally insulting his brother for that comment.
"No, of course not!"
"Who knows, she may need a week, or two, or even three soon," Mark kept going, and she glared at him, muttering a 'shut the fuck up'.
"Anyway, I'm still working today, so I should get going," she said and left them here, mad at her brother. At least, in her kitchen, she would be completely alone, still not bearing people while she was baking.
Unfortunately for her, peace only lasted two hours.
"Sissy?"
"I'm baking," she groaned, and Mark sighed and entered the kitchen nevertheless. She looked at him, waiting to know what he wanted.
"How did it go?" he asked, and Constanze automatically smiled: Mark didn't need to precise what he was talking about, she already knew, and all the anger disappeared when she remembered that she was pregnant.
"Amazing," she smiled, "thank you for helping me. He was really happy. He is really happy."
"I still cannot believe that my sister is having a baby with one of my favorite player," he shook his head, and she smiled.
"You forgot the part where the sister is eight years younger than the football player."
"Irrelevant," he shrugged. "Sorry for what I said in front of Mom. I guess that you don't want her to know yet and I understand."
"It's fine," she said, sighing. "I just...don't want to deal with everybody's reaction yet. It was hard enough for them to accept this relationship, so...I don't want to imagine what they are going to say to a baby."
"You know that just like with the gap year, their opinions don't matter, right?"
"I know," she nodded, "but I cannot live with the fact that my baby won't have grandparents because they decided that they wanted nothing to do with that child. So, for now, I'm just going to enjoy the bliss."
"That's a good choice," Mark smiled, and she smiled back before hugging him.
"I'll miss you."
"You're leaving for a week, Sissy. A whole week with the Alcántara do Nascimiento family," he said in a dreamy tone, and she laughed.
"Now stop bothering me while I'm cooking. Out of my kitchen."
_
"Do you have everything you need?"
"Yep," Constanze nodded, looking at their baggage.
"What about food? Did you bring food?"
"Thiago, it's a two-hour flight. Barcelona is not on the other side of the world," she mocked.
"What if you are hungry, though? What if the baby is hungry?"
"Fine, let's take this bag of potatoes chips," she decided out of nowhere, knowing it was the only way for him to stop worrying and to finally leave the house.
He smiled, apparently satisfied, and they finally left for the airport.
"Do you want to seat next to the window?" Thiago asked, looking at their tickets, "but wait, if the plane crashes, I think it's better for you and the baby not to be next to the window, so—"
"Thiago!" she whined.
"What? I'm being practical!"
"If the plane crashes, we are all dead, you do realize that?"
"There is still a slight chance that you survive, so I'm going to seat there."
Constanze rolled her eyes before sitting next to him. They only had a two-hour flight, so she didn't have time to lose before falling asleep.
_
"Anze?"
"Mmh?" she raised her head from her phone, already texting Mark to let him know that they arrived in Barcelona safe and sound.
"There are paparazzi."
She looked at her boyfriend, panicked.
They were dating for two years, but Constanze never had to deal with the paparazzi until now. Thiago and her were very careful since the beginning, and no one knew where the woman was living or working. She something saw them from afar when she was coming at the Allianz Arena, but that was it.
"Okay," she said, because she didn't know what to say else.
"I'm calling Rafael, so we can meet on the back of the airport," he said, and she sighed, relieved. She didn't want to deal with them. At all. And as she could see on Thiago's face, it was the same for him.
He took his phone from his pocket and a few minutes later, starts to speak in Portuguese, so Constanze didn't even try to understand what he was saying. She didn't know that Rafinha was the one picking them at the airport, but she was kind of happy about that. She didn't get along with Thiago's parents, but his siblings had been very supportive since the beginning, and she was glad to see them all again. The last time she had seen Rafael and Thaisa was a few months ago, and she was finally going to meet Rafinha's girlfriend, Kate.
"Let's go," Thiago finally said, and she nodded, following him wherever they were going. She still didn't feel good knowing that paparazzi were not far, even though she knew that she was safe. She finally smiled when they took one of the back door and saw Rafael waiting in front of his car, his phone in his hand.
"Hey, I was about to call you," he said in English, which warmed Constanze's heart.
The two brothers exchanged a hug and Constanze stayed a little behind, smiling, until Thiago turned around, frowning.
"What are you doing? Come in the hug!"
She looked at Rafael to make sure that he was okay with that, and he raised an eyebrow.
"C'mon Constanze, you're family now, and family hugs to say hi."
She smiled and hugged them.
"It's good to see you again, Constanze."
"You too, Rafael. You too."
