This growl is usually aimed towards someone the dog is not familiar with. This growl can be followed by barks that sound deep and/or meant to sound threatening. These barks and growls can be heard when someone has knocked on the door or when someone acts aggressively toward a person the dog is familiar with and sees as a member of his or her "pack".
