If you do not update regularly, then you WILL lose readers. Even if you cannot update every week, tell your readers at the end of every chapter a reasonable date when the next chapter will be published.
Give yourself a deadline for when your next chapter will be published. Most likely... if you don't, your book will be long forgotten.
Readers look for completed books and if its not completed, they look for when it was last updated, if it was updated last like half a year ago... byeeeee book! Byeeee readers!
