The dining hall at Ilvermorny is located in the main building. Both rectangular as circular tables are placed in the rectangular dining hall. The tables are decorated with fabric napkins, which are embroidered with the school emblem. Students are free to choose their own seating, independent of their houses. Three glass chandeliers illuminate the setting accompanied by a series of light strings across the walls. At the back of the room three major windows offer a view over the campus grounds. The middle window is decorated with stain glass depicting the Snakewood Tree (where Isolt Sayre had buried her wand after winning the fight with Gormlaith).
Students are required to join breakfast from 7 a.m. to 7.45 a.m. Lunch is served from 12 a.m. until 1 p.m. Dinner is served from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Dining is free and students have the choice from an elaborate menu which changes courses every once in a while, according to the seasons and occasions. Students are allowed to bring their lunch outside to enjoy a picknick when the weather is nice. In summer, it is possible to open the windows at the back of the room and enjoy the cooling of the warm summers' day.
Students are allowed to come and go as they please, with no one checking on them. However, it is advisory to attend at least breakfast and dinner at the dining hall since announcements can be made before the start of the course.
Teachers are seated at the back of the room, near the windows. They are seated in a separated area, indicated by a cranberry red, velvet cord. In this area only members of the staff are allowed.
