~CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO~
It's been a month. Since I found my mother on a bench. The smell of lilacs woke her. She didn't recognize any of us. But still - she accepted our help and hospitality. She was beaten. Breathless. We rushed her to the emergency room. We went back to California, with her.
She's in the hospital now. The doctors say she has breast cancer. That we got her just in time, before it spread. According to her records, after she left, she'd been wasted. Drunk. Homeless.
Her story however, is still untold. The doctors think she can make it. Think she'll be able to survive.
I hope she will. She has much to explain.
