Shadow
My fingers slowly disintegrating into ash
My flowing tears transform into ecstasy
The heavy weights of expectations constricting my chest, seizing my breathing
Nothing more than a distant memory
The growing pain of anxiety perishes
The hate and looks of distaste fracture like the glass of a broken mirror
The cesspool of guilt and pity I was swimming in evaporates
My willingness to succeed caves in and collapses
Everything in my life rots
Until I am a simple shadow
Observing and watching
From a safe distance
I take a break from the battlefields
Cannons and bullets scattered every which way
My sanity and hope crumbled away when the first attack commenced
It was dawn, I thought I was safe
Now I watch silently as my security decays
As you take out your anger on me
Every single day
The scars you give me will last a lifetime
The pain too unbearable to hide
Though the fight is over here, it continues in our minds
You degraded me, everything I thought I stood for
Until I was too weak to stand anymore
A blow to my head, a right hook, and a jab
Bystanders jeering and laughing from the sidelines
Was my anguish simply entertainment to you?
You never understood all the agony and suffering I went through
However, that will not be a problem anymore
Everything that matters is gone and I am by my lonesome
Staring at an army of hate and shame
Because I could not keep my demons locked away
I simply gave you the key
Not that it's important...
Now, I am a shadow
Hi guys! I just wanted to thank you for 50+ reads! Also, this book is ranked #21 in the loveyourself category and I could not be happier! I hope you liked this poem, it's pretty short but I know a lot of people can relate to it. In case you did not understand the intended message, it's basically about a victim of bullying feeling so worthless they want to disappear, to become a shadow. I just want to say to everyone reading this that no matter what anyone says about you, you are valued and loved.
