We both stood outside in the parking lot. I leaned against her car as she was staring at me, and what she told me earlier was still very much in the back of my mind.
Could she be my mother?
Or was she just some crazy ass lady?
"Tell me why I should believe the words coming from your mouth?" I asked.
She stared at me for a moment. "When I first saw you here, I knew you looked familiar, but couldn't figure it out. But, since I haven't seen my daughter in seven years, I can't really be sure."
I stared at her as it kind of clicked from what she said, but she still might be a crazy lady. Even if this woman was my mother, I wanted nothing to do with her.
"Look, I think you're mistaking me for someone else. I'm sorry." I shrug as I watch her.
She stared at me for a moment. "You still haven't told me your last name."
"I don't have to." I cross my arms. "Look woman, you're mistaking me for the wrong-"
"Emma?" A man interrupted us as he walked towards us. "I was wondering where you were." He stopped to look at me. "Who is this?"
I looked back at the woman as she was staring at me for a moment. I could see it in her eyes that she desperately wanted me to be who she thought I was, but unfortunately I wasn't.
As we were standing there, I heard Tommy's voice. "Dana!" I watched as he was walking out of the building.
I looked back over at the man and woman that was standing in front of me, then left without saying anything. I stopped in front of him. "What?" I asked. "Is Julia awake?" I hoped.
"No," He shook his head. "but Diane is looking for you." He looked behind me then back at me. "Who's that?"
I looked back at them as they were watching me. I didn't really care who those people were. All I know is that my parents are nothing but a bunch of abusive assholes, and I never want them back in my life.
That cannot be them.
-
Diane had wanted to talk to me because she feels like Julia will not be waking up soon. The doctors all said the same shit about her condition, and I could see it in Diane's eyes that she panicking.
So am I.
If Julia dies, I don't know what I'm going to do. It doesn't feel real. It feels like a dream, that I can't seem to wake up from. No matter what, there's no waking up from this damn nightmare.
"D," Tommy called out. "look, I think you need to go home and rest."
I shook my head as I was dozing off in the chair. I had my head on the armrest and I could feel myself falling asleep. "I don't want to leave." I said.
"Well, me and Damion are gonna go home. We'll come back tomorrow, ok?" He said. I nod and watch as he leans down and kisses my forehead.
I lay there as I tried not to fall asleep, but it was hard to do at the moment. When I was just about to fall asleep, I heard a voice that woke me up.
"Dana?"
I lean up to see Johnny walking into the waiting room. "What are you doing?" I ask as he sits down next to me.
"I came to see how you were doing." He said as he was frantically looking around.
I watch him. "I'm fine." He nods as he's looking around and I become curious. "So, is that really why you came here?"
