[day out]
-chapter eighteen

+

we left the house together, not really knowing where we were going ...just walking. there was silence, yet it wasn't an awkward silence. it was comfortable, which sounds rather odd but in the moment it made sense

"hey, want to grab something to eat?" asked adrien.
my cheeks flamed up instantly- probably making me look rather startled.

seeing this he quickly added "its not a date... I mean unless you want it to be. if you feel uncomfortable its ok. I understand."

"you talk too much" I laughed
"well...just another thing we have in common" he said, intertwining his warm hand in mine as he did so. I was completely astonished. he was holding my hand.

"ok lets go then, but only if I pay for myself" I stated stubbornly

he looked at me quizzically.
"not happening, you know its not," he said "we're just as stubborn as one another"

that was true.
for some reason these words tore at my heart. in a good sort of way. they were one of those things I won't forget.

he lead me to a restaurant not far from our cabin. It was quite quaint but delightful all the same.

we went to get a table and sat down.

It was only about 12 in the afternoon yet the sun already shone mercilessly.
"what would you like? " asked the waitress- her blond locks falling lightly over her shoulders, a small notepad to take people's orders was swinging on its rings around her finger, her mouth chewing gum loudly.
her smile was visibly forced, until she glanced at adrien, and her eyes widened.

"umm...a milkshake for me and.." said adrien slowly, then he motioned to me.
"two then please"

she began to leave but about three steps later she turned around. "you're adrien agreste...aren't you?"

adrien winced at these words. sure having fans was nice, but so was having a private life ."no...no...we look alike but certainly not. "

at this she raised her eyebrows and brushed her hair behind her ear revealing her name badge. it read "ashley".

studying adrien's face closely she shrugged slightly and walked away again.

god people were so intrusive. I kept looking around as we waited for our food. not so much out of nerves but out of embarrassment really.  It had suddenly become somewhat awkward and there we sat. no sounds.
"ummmm..so," began adrien "you know how I asked whether or not you regard this as a dat-"
but he was cut off by a sudden clatter on the table. a hand had appeared right in front of me. I slowly rose my head, fearing what or who I'd see.

my suspicion was correct. a huge smile plastered broadly across his face, his white teeth shining and eyes fixed on me was jeremy. "well mari, fancy seeing you here" he said slowly tilting his head to the side, eyes still staring deep into mine. i broke eye contant quickly, confused.
what was he doing here?

It may've meant to come off as loving or even seductive- but it was more intimidating than anything. suddenly there came an adgetated cough with an obvious note of sarcasm.

jeremy shot around to see an angry adrien, eyebrows raised and staring at him intently
"what are you doing here" spat jeremy "what is it now, are you two like dating?"

my heart stopped as adrien opened his mouth and closed it again. we weren't dating- that was true, yet something inside me broke as I saw his reaction. he hadn't expected that sort of question.

jeremy knew how to get inside someone's head with the right questions. then something unexpected happened. no- unexpected is an understatement

adrien stood up and stood centimeters away from Jeremy. I could feel the tension between them. "as a matter of fact i don't think that's much of your concern. what i can however tell you, is that neither i, nor her want you here. oh, and you're interrupting our date so I'd appreciate it if you'd leave now" i held back a smug grin at this. jeremy was dumbfounded.

then I realised what had just been said. did he mean it or did he just say it because he needed to get rid of Jeremy? i guess this kind of is a date after the previous days...

momentarily, jeremy swept around to face me and leaned closer to my face. "I meant what I said last night. I really like you"
then he left leaving an indignant adrien and a confused and flustered me.

"your drinks" said a voice, making us snap our heads in his direction abruptly.
It was a waitress this time. seemed like ashley had lost interest in us. that one less intrusion for today, in the least.
