XU MINGXIA quietly walked to the convenient store down her street. It was night, the moon was up high and the streets were nearly empty.
Her mother, a nurse, and her father, a security guard, had night shift. She would usually have to babysit her younger sister, Mei, but tonight her sister was at a sleepover so she was alone. Like usual. However, she didn't mind it too much.
The automatic doors pulled open as Mingxia made her way towards the door. When she stepped in, the only worker in the small shop said boredly.
She nodded and quietly made her way to the candy aisle. Mingxia didn't eat sweets too often, but for some reason she decided that tonight she would.
Her bottom lip was caught between her teeth as her eyes scanned over the variety of sweets, soon landing on her favorite, Twix. A smile pulled at the corners of her lips and she picked the gold wrapped candy.
She turned her body to leave the aisle, still looking at the candy, too distracted to realize someone was coming by.
Their shoulders bumped and Mingxia was knocked to the side, but the person caught her before she could hit the shelves.
