Today is Wednesday and a very special day: Tanq's twenty-eighth birthday. This week we're in Sin City, the one and only Las Vegas, Nevada; the perfect place to throw a surprise birthday for someone who just can't seem to shut up about how much she loves Vegas. It's about six in the evening now and Seth and I are finishing putting up the final decorations in the ballroom at the MGM Grand Conference Center. Last week, I went to Stephanie and told her I wanted to throw a surprise party for Tanq. She agreed and sent out an email about it to all the superstars and we all pitched in for the decorations, entertainment, cake, and setup. Stephanie was able to pull some strings to get the ballroom for the night for the party and a pretty nice cake on such short notice. I've been acting like a crazy wedding planner on the day of a wedding and I know people have been wondering why I'm so on edge about this party for her.
Over the past month, Tanq has made quite the impression on the superstars and she's pretty cool with everyone, even with the backstage crew. She's a really cool person to be around and I won't lie, she and I have gotten pretty close since our night out together and, though I have my moments that she helps me through, I haven't thought about the fate of my marriage as much as I used to. We seem to have had this instant connection to each other and it's developed into a pretty tight friendship pretty quickly. People backstage will give us looks every now and then because we've become nearly inseparable and we've made a habit of going to catering and hanging out outside of work without Seth and Dean, much to both of their dismay. The fact that the Twitterverse has created a "ship" name for us probably doesn't help matter, but whatever; we're just friends and this is something nice I want to do for my friend, so I'm doing it.
The room is decorated with black and gold balloons, fabric table cloths and candle center pieces, the chair covers are gold, and I just know that she's going to explode with happiness once she sees everything.

I've come to learn that her favorite colors are black and gold, quite obviously since that's all she seems to wear at work. The cake is a smooth shiny black with fancy golden trimming and a golden number 28 cake topper and I seriously can't believe that the roster and bosses pulled all this off in a week. I continue to run around making sure everything is in its right place, but I spare a look at my watch, the time reading 6:26 PM. I take one last look at the room before running back to the MGM Grand hotel to change, leaving Dean and Seth already dressed in their outfits to look after the elaborately decorated ballroom, keeping in mind that by the time everyone else changes and gets back to the ballroom, it'll be time for the party. I burst into the suite and quickly get dressed in my outfit. It's a simple yet well-tailored black suit with a gold tie and gold handkerchief; I put on black dress shoes and fix my hair into a tight bun, looking myself over in the mirror and adjusting my jacket.
