She was a ruthless shadow. Experimented on at a young age, she was cursed with a variety of bastardized mutations ripped and harnessed from innocent mutants to be placed within a body meant to perform the most precise and high risk of assassinations without so much as a whisper in her wake. Fed with "compliance," a drug that rendered her incapable of any action except the task at hand, she held no conscience, no emotion, and no mercy.
But behind the mutations and the compliance and the skill was a broken woman with not even a name to call her own. A shell of a person, desperate to be free, never having tasted the relief of control, of freedom, a constant echoing scream of a bystander watching her body commit acts she would never dare to do if she were able, if she were in control. Yet there she was, with no name, no power, no control.
Yet when tasked with the assassination of The Avengers, a group that, despite their saving of the planet, were a controversy for the entire world to debate, she finds herself throwing caution to the wind once she is caught, kept until her compliance wears off to explain herself to the quiet doctor who had been the sole occupant of the tower at the time of her arrival, begging for his help in an attempt to finally be free of the people in her mind, the people holding her down.
With her mutations slowly killing her, she finds herself in a position of free will and utter entrapment, struggling to find the person that had been hidden for so long that she wasn't even sure she existed. Because after being broken and beaten for so long, she begins to wonder if there is a person behind the monster, or if she was the monster this whole time.

AUTHOR'S NOTE
I have tried for so long to write a Bruce fic, and I think I finally found the right fit! I'm honestly so excited for this, because it takes place right after the first Avengers and the main character actually won't be referred to by a name in narration, which I've toyed with before, and I'm just really excited for this because it just combines all my favorite things, including family dynamics and self-discovery.
【 This takes place in my Hero of Heroes series and while you don't need to have read the other fics in the series to understand what is going on, you can if you so wish as characters from this fic may appear in others and vice versa 】
