Phil did confess his feelings for Dan.

It went rather well, actually.

Dan had turned absolutely scarlet when Phil told him, but stuttered out a reply along the lines of 'I feel the same'.

When they could, Phil snuck Dan out of the house at night (he was still far too afraid to come out during the day) into his room, laying there wrapped in the comforting warmth of Dans wings and his arms.

After showering for the first time in a long while as well, Dan seemed to radiate happiness and just general positivity. It was surprising, really, considering that Dan had barely cracked a smile more than twice each time Phil visited (perhaps that was a reason he found it so endearing, but he never really bothered to look into it much more than that).

Some days, as well, they'd simply lay on the mushy floorboards at Dan's place of  living, taking in the sounds of the wind and the dust caught in the sunbeams from the holes in the roof.

Was it the most conventional of relationships?

No.

Did it work for them?

Most definitely.
