Darling in the Franxx

Plot
In a post-apocalyptic future humanity is under constant threat from giant creatures known as klaxosaurs which are subdivided into at least four categories based on their size: "Conrad", "Mohorovicic", "Gutenberg", and "(Super) Lehmann". Pushed to the brink of annihilation, the mysterious organization known as a APE has led the remnants of humanity to abandon the earth's surface for the relative safety of mobile fortress-cities known as Plantations. To defend the Plantations children called parasites are raised to pilot a giant mecha known as franxx in boy-girl pairs. Hiro is a former pilot-candidate prodigy who can no longer synchronize with his partner and they both fail to complete the training program. While skiping his class' graduation ceremony, Hiro encounters Zero Two, an infamous Franxx pilot with klaxosaur blood and red horns. After Zero Two's partner died during a klaxosaur attack, Hiro volunteers to become her new partner or "darling"

Hiro (Code: 016)
He is the main protagonist of the series. He was once called a prodigy, he is now a drop-out pilot candidate after "losing" his ability to synchronize with his partner in the Franxx. So far he's the only male able to pilot Strelizia with Zero Two without taking damage. It is revealed that hero was once a leader among the children and the one responsible for naming them, as well as asking the adults a lot of questions, although they never give an answer; he also witness Zero Two undergoing painful testing

Zero Two (Code: 02)
Is the main heroine of the series. She is an elite pilot belonging to APE's special forces, Zero Two is a mysterious girl often referred to as a monster due to her red horns and klaxosaur blood. She is also known as the "partner killer" as all her partners who pilot with her always die after riding three times with her at most, with Hiro being the only exception. She always call Hiro as her "darling". Her true wish is to become fully human so she can reunite with an important person from her past, which turned out to be Hiro. She is the princess clone of klaxosaurs
