Victor's POV
We left the next day around the same time as Percy and the others. From the look of Percy's face I could tell he was relieved that they had actually gotten a Navy ship and not a fishing boat like before. Yeah they explained to us after Annabeth declared that Percy had missed this part out of his adventures with the Romans.
I had asked Reyna why the Romans even needed a Navy. According to her, Romans are a bit paranoid so they liked to be prepared in case. Why they would ever get attacked so badly that they would need a Navy force is beyond me. They must have some pretty bad enemies then.
At first we faced problems with travel. We had money, but no ride. I had suggested that we take the Gray sisters taxi, but then Annabeth and Nico both said that ride would most likely kill us before we could even pretend to be dead to enter the Underworld. Jason said that would actually make things easier for us. Annabeth had said 'Yes it would. But how would we come back to fulfill the prophecy; the whole reason we are going down there?'
Then Percy had offered to ask the pegasi to take us. I thought that putting me, on Shaderider, without Percy or Blackjack with us was a death wish. The horse-sorry, pegasus, seemed to have it out for me. At the same time he suggested it though, he shot down his own idea saying that they'd just have to hope Zeus wouldn't strike Nico down or Poseidon wouldn't summon a tidal wave and drown him. Nico had death glared at him for that. My sister offered to carry us, but we decided that we didn't want her falling off Mount Lee when she dropped us off at the Hollywood Sign. Or drowning the rest of us in the Atlantic Ocean.
Eventually we decided that we would shadow travel there. Mackenzie gave me an evil look when she left because she knew I hated shadow travel. I could do it. Much better than her actually, but I hated it. Nico whistled, not like Percy's New York taxi cab whistle but just a short whistle. I eventually heard the sound of large feet and barking approaching rapidly. A big hellhound had appeared and started licking Nico.
"Hey girl, nice to see you too," he said petting her nose.
I blinked in surprise, "You have a pet hellhound!" I shouted out in disbelief.
"Actually, Ms O'Leary is Percy's. I just use her sometimes," he explained. Jason and Piper were stunned but didn't seem surprised.
"I suppose that explains the name."
Annabeth gestured to her wrist impatiently. "Nico, we don't have all day."
He stood briskly and nodded. "Yeah. Well get on," soon Annabeth, Jason and Piper were on the back of the hellhound, but when I tried to get on, it stopped me.
"Hey death boy, I don't think your hellhound likes me," I told him. It kept growling and sniffing me. Nico seemed mildly irritated by the name. I guess Archer had called him that. He seemed to hate the guy.
"What do you expect me to do? I don't know why," his ever-so helpful answer was.
"Why do animals always seem to have something against me?" I asked myself out loud. Jason snickered at my predicament. "Shut it, wind boy." I tried to get around the growling dog-sorry, hellhound, before I tick off another animal.
"Just try talking to it, Nico," Annabeth suggested.
"How? I'm not Percy! Why doesn't animal boy do it?" he protested.
"Do you really think that I can understand what it's saying?" I asked him rhetorically.
Piper patted the hellhound and spoke convincingly, "Ms O'Leary, let Victor ride with us," she said sternly. The hellhound looked at her sceptically. "Let him on."
