Tokoyami skipped school that day.
He sprinted towards the closest hospital where he was told Kitsune was at.
He couldn't focus.
He couldn't think about anything else other than her wellbeing.
What if she wasn't okay?
Everyone's head turned to crane at him as soon as he ran through the sliding doors of the emergency room.
"Excuse me!", he said to the receptionist, "I need to know if a patient is okay."
"Sir, I'm sure whoever it is, is fi-"
"Please!"
The receptionist sighed. "What's their name?'
"Kousaki Kitsune."
She typed the name into her database.
"I'm terribly sorry sir, but Kousaki-"
Tokoyami felt like his heart was going to stop any second.
Was she gone?
Did he already lose her?
"She's not taking any visitors right now. In fact, they're just about to sedate her."
She's alive.
"You have to let me go see her", the bird boy pressed, "Please. I need to see her."
The receptionist sighed again. "Name?"
"Tell her it's Toko-chan."
The lady picked up the phone and dialed the floor she was on.
"Yes hello, I- What? Can you repeat that? I said I have a Toko-chan wanting to see miss Kousaki before she goes under. Mhmm. Yes sir."
She hung up the phone and looked at Tokoyami again.
"You're lucky the nurses are letting you see her. Then again, you're the only person she has agreed to see. She's on floor three, just ask the nurses what room."
"Thank you so much!"
Tokoyami sprinted towards the elevator.
The ride up to the third floor was stressful.
What had happened to her?
She was being sedated?
The elevator door opened on the third floor.
Tokoyami's ears were filled with a heart-wrenching wail.
A nurse turned to look at him.
"Are you Toko-chan?!"
Tokoyami nodded. The nurse grabbed his sleeve and dragged him towards one of the rooms.
"Please see if you can calm her down", she said, and opened the door, "She got back from surgery a few hours ago."
Kitsune was sitting up in bed. Her blue hair was a wild mess and her face was flushed a bright shade of red. Tears streamed down her face as she emitted a loud cry.
She didn't even have to say anything. She just looked at Tokoyami and sobbed, holding her arms out for him.
He rushed to her bedside and threw his arms around her, holding her.
"Kousaki, what's wrong?? What's wrong love, what happened??"
"M-My wings", she hiccupped.
She opened the back of her hospital gown ever so slightly.
Two stitches sat where her wings should have been.
"My wings are my favorite part of myself", Kitsune had said one evening.
They were now gone.
Tokoyami just held her again as she sobbed.
"I'm so sorry Kousaki..."
He knew he shouldn't have left her.
