After dinner, Doug and Evie sat on the couch, cuddling, when they had finished their shower.
"Princess," Doug started.
"Mmm?"
"Since we talked to your mother today... i was wondering if you wanted to meet my parents. Mom invited me to dinner to celebrate Mother's Day tomorrow and i dont wanna go without you."
It was pin drop silence as Evie contemplated. "But Doug," she said, breaking the silence. "I- I dont know. They wont like me once they see me."
Doug sighed as he twirled a stray strand of blue hair. "Thats what we thought for your mom, but it turned out fine. And plus, we've been dating for like 9 years but they havent seen you at all. All they know is that ive an anonymous girlfriend and when Mom invites you over i always decline. Please."
Evie pouted and tears stung her eyes. Usually, she wasnt that emotional, but with the pregnancy mood swings and all...
"Please..." Doug pleaded but Evie stubbornly shook her head.
"Cmon." Doug urged softly but that pushed Evie off the edge.
"NO, DOUG! They'll hate me!"
"How do you know that?" Doug furrowed his eyebrows slightly, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
"No! Please Doug."
"Princess... but its Mother's Day and it would mean the world to Mom to finally meet you. How bad could it get? Considering your mother's history... if she could accept-"
"How dare you insult my mother!" Evie yelled, standing up as Doug's expression softened when he realised he said the wrong thing.
"Im sorry, Evie-"
But it was too late, Evie glared at him and ran to the master bedroom, slamming the door and falling on the bed, burying her head in the pillows and crying herself to sleep.
Doug sighed and stood up, walking to the master bedroom and opened the door to see his girlfriend sobbing her eyes out. His heart broke.
"Evie..." he trailed off as he walked to the bed and sat down, only to see her fast asleep.
He sighed and picked up her tiny figure before laying her on him. Wrapping his arms protectively around her, he closed his eyes.
As the sun rose the next morning, Evie's eyes slowly fluttered open to see her body on her boyfriend's. Events of the previous night then bombarded her mind and she frowned. She knew she had been too sensitive, but she couldnt help it. And she knew that she was unreasonable last night. Doug agreed to meet her Mom, who, as Doug said, was eviler and scarier than his, but she couldnt grant him the wish of meeting his side of the family.
As Evie lay there thinking, Doug woke up. Evie saw his eyes open.
"Im sorry." She said, catching Doug by surprise.
"What?"
"Im sorry. Let's visit your family."
Doug raised his eyebrows. "Are you sure? Why the sudden change of mind?"
"Im sorry, i was too unreasonable. You met my mother so now its my turn."
Doug smiled and tightened his arms around Evie. "Thanks princess, I love you."
"Love you too."
