Surprise

I bent down slightly to look straight into Alex's eyes. 

"I'm sorry I liked her, but-" Alex looked straight back into my eyes. 

"Why are you sorry? I didn't say I heard the conversation to make you feel sorry. The only thing you did was clairify where Natalia belonged." I sighed out a breath of relief. 

I hugged her tighter and she hugged back while inhaling my scent. 

"So there's only one more day left." I sighed and stroke her hair. The moon was getting fuller since it was only one more full day until the full moon. 

Also the day of the expected attack. 

"Yeah. We will be fine though." Alex nodded against my chest. 

"I hope so. I really hope so." We both stood there, leaning against my desk and embracing each other when Alex broke the silence. 

"You know what I always wondered?" 

"Hm?" 

"Why would Jackson throw Natalia away? I feel like something doesn't add up. How quickly they found us, the time of Natalia's arrival and the first letter and it just... there's a piece we're missing from the picture." 

I didn't say anything for a while and Alex slightly leaned back to look up at my face. 

I was looking past her through the window into the trees. 

Why hadn't I thought of that?

Alex's POV:

The day ended with Marc finishing the papers that were arranged on his desk. 

He and I both got to bed and talked a little more regarding matters about Natalia. 

"So about how your eyes turned gold back in my office." I furrowed my eyebrows.

"My eyes turned gold?" Marc nodded. 

"Yeah." I slightly pouted. 

"How weird. I don't know why they would do that though." 

"Maybe that's the color your eyes turn when you're burning with jealousy." I rolled my eyes and slightly smacked his well defined chest. Oh goodness this guy. 

"But seriously, there was something to you I couldn't quite put my finger on. You weren't scary, but definitely not... containable. I think even if I used my alpha tone you wouldn't have obeyed."

I slightly laughed.

"Well that's good then. I have an advantage." Now it was Marc's turn to pout. 

"We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow, let's get some sleep." I fell asleep almost as soon as we snuggled closer.

The day began very early as usual but there was something that was terribly wrong. There was screaming in the air and I heard busy shouts and commands. I opened my eyes and rubbed them while trying to feel for Marc. 

He wasn't there. 

I immediately got up from my bed and quickly changed into my running shorts, mint nikes and sports bra with a sleeveless shirt on top. 

As I put my hair into a high ponytail, I opened the door and came face to face with a panic-stricken Maria. 

"You're finally awake!" 

"What's going on?" Maria gestured for me to follow her as we made our way down the hall into her room. 

It had a good view of the field that we sometimes used for training.
