Keith woke up before Lance, Lance still breathing heavily beside him. He was passed out. For the first time in a long time, Keith hadn't had a night terror. Was it because I had Lance here to comfort me? Keith thought. Keith couldn't help but smile at him, but still, he felt bad all the same. He never saw Lance this worn out before, and he didn't want to see this ever again. Lance was clinging to Keith's jacket, his face buried in his chest. Keith wanted to fall back asleep but was slightly restless. While Keith laid there thinking, he stroked Lance's hair, staring at the ceiling. He had ached for this for so long, to have Lance in his arms, and it felt good, but the circumstances of the situation still weighed heavily on him. He wanted to fix it all. He wanted to make Lance happy again, like he had known him before he left, before he started doubting himself.

At this point, Keith was wide awake. He got up slowly and sat and the end of the cushion. He gave Lance a pillow so he would still think he was there, and Lance gripped it immediately. Keith smiled at this and stroked Lance's hair lovingly. Keith got up and took off his jacket, laying it over Lance's shoulder and chest so he could be warm. He hesitated for a moment, looking down at Lance's serene face, but decided against waking him up. He got up, content with himself and walked about the house, cleaning it up little by little as he went. Eventually, he made it to Lance's room...

~~~
Lance woke up groggily, having slept hard the night before. He hadn't realised how exhausted he was. He sat up slowly, the room brightly lit. He blinked his eyes, trying to adjust to the sudden change, and felt something slide off his shoulder. He looked down and saw the familiar red jacket now laying at his hip. He smiled slightly, for just a moment, and called out.
"Keith?" He asked sleepily. No reply.
He shifted his weight so he was more upright on the couch and grabbed Keith's jacket. He slowly put it on, fitting him perfectly. It was soft and warm too. No wonder why Keith always wore it. And it smelled like Keith too, Lance subconsciously noted.
Lance got up shakily from the couch, still blinking in the sunlight streaming through the windows. It was the first day the entire week that it hadn't been raining. He shoved his hands in the jacket pockets and started to walk towards his room.
"Keith?" He called again, rounding the corner to stand in his door way. Keith stood in the room, looking expectantly at the doorway. In one hand was his balde from Marmora, and in the other was the noose Lance made. Lance leaned against the door frame and met Keith's eyes hesitantly, swallowing hard.
"Hey" Keith said, a worried undertone peaking through in his voice. Lance looked down, ashamed.
"I'm sorry" Lance started. "About everything. About last night. About being a hot mess. About you having to see that" he gestured to the noose. "I'm so sorry." Lance paused for a moment.
"You have nothing to be sorry for" Keith said gently. He leaned down to place the cut noose on the floor and slid the blade behind his back and into the sheath on his belt. He crossed the room, standing in front of Lance in the doorway. "It's natural Lance." He placed his hands on Lance's shoulders, Lance meeting his endearing eyes. "Grieving is natural and being a hot mess is part of the deal. I'm here to help you. I'm here to be your friend and make sure you'll get through this. We look out for each other, whether it's as friends or as a team." Lance nodded, slowly. He opened his mouth as to say something, but quickly shut it. He looked away, embarrassed, the thought of falling asleep last night on Keith returning.
"What is it?" Keith asked slowly.
"I just feel bad about being so needy last night too. Like, I just fell into your arms and sort of asked to sleep with you last night. Isn't it weird? For two guys to do that? I mean, we're best friends, I get that, but I'm not used to that sort of thing. Like it would be totally awkward if a guy and girl did that if they weren't together and it's still awkward if two guys did it and-" Lance caught himself, meeting Keith gaze. He didn't looked annoyed, just attentive.
