After sleeping hard the night before, Keith and Lance flew to Hunk's old home, Lance giving Keith the coordinates. They took only Black and Lance held onto Keith's chair as Keith piloted. They hit a little turbulence and Lance lost his grip, grabbing onto Keith's shoulder for support. Even after they levelled out, Lance kept his grip on his shoulder. Keith looked up at him and reached up slowly, resting his hand on top of Lance's.
"You okay?" Keith asked. Lance looked down at him, a slightly worried look on his face. He smirked nervously.
"Yeah, I'm fine" Lance replied unsteadily. Keith raised an eyebrow at him suspiciously.
"Are you sure?" Lance adverted his eyes.
"Truth be told, I was actually worse with flying than Hunk was at the Garrison. Guess it's just coming back to haunt me" Lance replied. Keith looked back in front of him and laughed softly.
"Seriously?" He asked.
"Yeah, seriously." Lance replied. Keith chuckled again and squeezed his hand softly before letting go to return his hand to the controls.
"Good thing you're in good hands" Keith added.
"Says the guy who jumped us off a thousand foot high cliff within five minutes of meeting you again" Lance said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"We were being chased by the Garrison, what other choice did I have?" Keith replied with a smirk. Lance quietly chuckled at this.
They had left mid afternoon and arrived at Hunk's old home a few moments later. Lance walked up to the door looking like he owned the place and knocked, Keith standing a little behind him. A middle aged woman greeted them at the door with slight shock when looking at Lance.
"Lance McClain? Is that you?" She asked in shock.
"Yes, Mrs. Garrett. It's good to see you again" Lance replied rather politely, this being a new concept to Keith. Keith couldn't help but smirk at this.
"Oh don't Mrs. Garrett me. Come give me a hug, it's been too long!" She pulled Lance into a hug and Lance chuckled, returning it. He pulled away but kept a hand on her arm, turning towards Keith with a small gesture.
"I don't know if Hunk told you but this is Keith, another paladin and a good friend of mine. He's the leader of Voltron. Keith, this is Hunk's mom, Deborah. She's arguably my mom as well from how many nights I've spent over here." Keith offered a warm smile and shook Deborah's hand.
"It's nice to meet you."
"Well come on in universe defenders! Don't just stand there!" Deborah joked. Lance looked back at Keith with a giddy smile, leading Keith into the house.
The house was warm and bustling, large amounts of food being cooked in the kitchen while family gathered in the living room. Hunk's family was almost as big as Lance's family was, older members chatting loudly amongst themselves while the younger kids ran about the house with lively shrieks and giggles. Keith had never seen anything like it since he'd been alone his entire life.
Hunk was chasing one of his sibling but stopped right in front of Lance and Keith, panting.
"Geez I forgot how fast they were" Hunk huffed. Lance laughed, a small wave of sadness crossing his eyes, Keith saw.
"Reminds me of my niece and nephew when I would chase them" Lance said with a nostalgic tone. Hunk laid a hand on his shoulder.
"Well you can chase my siblings and cousins. You know you're just an extension to our family, right?" Hunk said, completely serious. Lance nodded with a soft smile. Keith knew that must have meant a lot just by how Lance relaxed.
