^^^Is this confirmed? Wow, I never in a million years expected them together but nonetheless, if it is true, I support it all the way. I find it cute. Hope all goes well for them^^^
Maya bit her bottom lip hard as she crumpled the lined paper in her trembling hands. She didn't want to believe the words written on the paper. She wouldn't let herself.
Slowly she pulled her legs closer to her chest and tucked her head in the gap. "It's going to be okay," she told herself as she rocked back and forth but she knew it wasn't. As tears welled up in her eyes, she tried her best to forget about the letter but she couldn't. She should have done something.
"Maya" the girl heard a sweet voice, only to look up to see Hyunjin. She smiled upon seeing her best friend but still couldn't hide her sadness. He gave her a sympathetic smile and she could see from his tear-stained face and puffy eyes that he had been crying too.
"What are we going to do?" she asked him.
The boy sighed as he ran a hand through his hair.
"What can we do?"
"I could have done something-"
"Sh," he simply uttered as he pulled her into a hug. "Don't blame yourself."
Upon being comforted for the first time that morning, Maya immediately cried on her friend's chest.
"It hurts," Hyunjin heard her muffled cry before holding on tighter. He knew why she was crying and couldn't blame her.
"Hey," he whispered as he pushed her back a bit so she could look in his eyes. He hated seeing her so broken and hated the way her teary eyes sent thousands of knives through his chest. "Don't cry too much, okay? Just imagine what Liv would think seeing how you are now. She wouldn't want you to cry this much." He pulled her closer again and heard her cries slowly die down. He smiled at himself, proud that he managed to calm her down.
After a few more minutes, Maya pulled away upon hearing the school bell ring, signalling the start of lessons. She gave the tall boy a reassuring smile before they headed to their seats and wiped the rest of her tears away.
But she couldn't ignore the empty seat beside her. For the five years they had been friends it had hardly ever been empty. At least when it was empty though, they knew she was alright. Now they didn't know what to think.
Not long later a middle-aged man entered the room with a teenager. The boy had dark hair that fringed his brown eyes. He briefly scanned the room before landing his eyes on Maya and slightly smiling at her. The girl furrowed her eyebrows and crinkled her nose. She didn't recognise the boy at all but by the way he stared at her, it seemed that he knew her.
Then the boy's gaze shifted to the person beside her. She tilted her head slightly before looking to see Hyunjin glaring at the boy.
Typical Hyunjin.
"As you can see, we have a new student with us today. Introduce yourself, son," the middle-aged man, often referred to Mr Park said while he looked through the stack of papers he had brought with him.
"Hi. I'm Kim Seungmin, everyone, and I am seventeen years old," the boy smiled before giving a ninety-degree bow. The class was then filled with cheers, many of were the girls who had already fallen head over heels for him.
"Good. Now take a seat behind Hyunjin over there," Mr Park ordered, taking out a paper from his stack. His eyebrows furrowed a bit before he looked up and gave Maya a sympathetic smile. "I have been informed that our classmate, Olivia Taylor is currently in the hospital. No further information has been given however, it seems that her condition isn't very good. Today we were supposed to be writing essays but due to the saddening news I would like to use this time to make something to encourage her to get well soon."
With that he handed out some loose paper, stopping at the pale teenage girl once he had finished. Maya tried to ignore his presence but when she felt a hand on her back she knew he wanted to talk.
"You seem to be taking this quite well, Maya. Are you sure you don't want to be excused from classes today?" He asked and the girl just gave him an assuring smile.
"Liv will get well. I don't want her to worry and crying would do exactly that. And class will actually get my mind off it."
Mr Park smiled.
"It's good to have that mindset. I'm proud of you for being so mature and strong about this. You never fail to impress me."
He left on that note and went back to marking books. Maya smiled at herself. She honestly felt like dying right then and there. She knew nothing about her best friend's well-being. Was she dead? Or does she just have a few broken bones? Maya didn't even know what happened, no one would tell her. "It's for the best," they all said but the teen thought otherwise.
When the bell for the first break rang, everyone rushed out leaving the girl alone with the new boy who was quick to approach her. She gulped when she saw him. He had been staring at her the whole lesson.
"H-hey-" she started but was soon cut off by the boy.
"You are Maya Humphreys, right?" he asked and the girl nodded. "Perfect. Can I ask you a question?"
"Sure," she answered with a shrug.
"What happened to Olivia?"
"She was taken to the hospital."
"Why? What happened to her?"
Maya gave the boy a look of warning. She didn't want to talk about it and the fact he pressed on, irritated her.
"New kids should know their place in this school." With that, the teenager walked passed him but he was already prepared for that and trapped her in front of the door.
"Answer me." He stared intensely at her. Maya rolled her eyes at him.
"Why are you asking me anyway?"
"Olivia and you were best friends." Judging by the look in his eyes, Maya knew he wasn't just asking for the sake of it. He wanted something and she didn't want to get involved so she lied.
"Well I'm sorry but I'm not the girl you're looking for. Olivia Taylor was never my friend."
