Tunnels

A few hours after Will and I got home, Will kept seeing things. Things that he couldn't describe. "Will, can you-can you think about this? Can you think about what you see?" I asked.

"Yeah." He closed his eyes.

"You got it, Will?" No answer. "Will?" I touched his arm. "Wi-" It was dark. We were moving too quickly, I couldn't tell what was going on. I watched as everything around me moved. Then, as quickly as it came, it was gone.

"Y/N," my mom asked. "What did you see?"

"I-I don't know. I can't explain it."

"Was there anything that you can describe," Hopper asked.

I shook my head. "Nothing."

Why can't we do something so simple, Will asked. If Y/N can't do it...

"What the fudge nuggets," I yelled and fell off the bed.

What's wrong with Y/N, Will sounded again.

"I don't know, Will. What's wrong with you?"

"What? I didn't-"

"I heard you ask what was wrong with me. I heard it."

"I just thought that. I didn't say it."

"Well, I heard it."

"Wait, you heard what he thought?" Hopper asked. I nodded. "Will, think something again."

I wish that we could be more helpful, he said.

"Yeah, me too." I replied. There has to be a way to explain what we saw, I thought.

How will we do that? It's not like we can show them what we saw.

"Or, maybe we can." I looked up at Will's and my drawings. "What if we drew them? What if we drew what we saw?" Will nodded. Mom and Hopper took that as a sign to grab paper and crayons. Will and I went over and sat at our desk. We each grabbed our paper and crayons. I put my shoulder against Will's and began drawing with Will. Lines with twists and turns.

After what felt like a few minutes, Will and I were finished. We put down our crayons and looked around the room that was covered in paper that seemed to match up. Tunnels. We were seeing tunnels.

I stretched. "Wow. Is anyone else hungry?" I got up and walked into the kitchen, seeing drawings everywhere. "Holy crap." I was speechless. How long had we been in there.

"Hey, sweetie," my mom greeted as she hung up another picture. "You okay?"

I nodded. "Yeah, I just-how long were we doing this?"

"Few hours," Hopper stated.

Now that I see it all drawn out, it's kinda like vines, growing and killing whatever is in its path, Will sounded in my mind. I jumped. I still wasn't used to that.

"What's wrong," Hopper asked.

I shook my head. "Nothing." Vines?

Yes. They keep growing and growing.

"Vines. That makes sense," I mumbled.

"What? What about vines?"

"Will thinks the tunnels are like vines. They keep growing and killing."

"Growing and killing? Growing and..." his eyes widened. "I've gotta go."

I sat next to my mom on the couch. It was morning and Hopper still hadn't returned.

"Y/N, why didn't you tell me about you seeing Will's episode on Halloween?"

I shook my head. "I don't know. You were so calm, so peaceful since Will has been back and I've been awake. I couldn't do it. I couldn't ruin it."

"Is that the same reason you didn't say anything about these," she asked, motioning to my arms.

I crossed my arms. "Look, I didn't tell most people. Before Will went missing, Will was the only person who knew by my own choice. Troy found out by overhearing Will and I. Then Mike, then Jonathan, then the party. It just happened."

"Does your father know?"

"No. The truth is, I didn't say anything to him when he came here. He doesn't know anything about me, and I don't want to know about him either." I sighed. "Mom, I know that you wanna protect me and want me to trust you as much as I trust Will, but that's going to take time. I'm trying to trust, trying to open up. It's just hard."

She pulled me close to her. I laid my head on her shoulder. "I know, baby," she whispered.

"Mom!" Will yelled as he came running out of his room. "Hopper's in trouble."

"What?"

"I saw it. I dreamt about him. He's in the tunnels."

I stood up and ran over to him. "Show me." Will nodded. I hesitated, my hand hovering above Will's shoulder. I took a deep breath and put my hand on his shoulder, closing my eyes. Images of Hopper flashed in my mind. Hopper in the dark, cold tunnels. My eyes open and I removed my hand. "I know where he is." I went along the drawings until I hit a certain spot and pointed to it. "Here."

"We don't even know where that is," mom stated. "It's a damn puzzle."

"Who do we know that's good at puzzles?" Will asked.

I thought for a moment. "I don't..." I snapped. "Bob. He said he liked puzzles."

"Yeah. We can ask Bob."

Mom, Bob, Will, Mike, and I sat in the car as we drove to a pumpkin patch. Mike had shown up while we were figuring things out. Mom had told Bob that we couldn't explain everything at that point, but we would later.

When we got to the pumpkin patch, there was a huge hole next to Hopper's truck. We all got out and ran over to the hole.

"Hopper? Hopper!" I yelled. No answer. "I'm going down there." I was about to jump in the hole when Bob caught my arm.

"No," he said. "I will." I nodded, stepping back. He grabbed a flashlight.

"Be careful," my mom cautioned. Bob nodded and jumped in, being swallowed and pulled into the ground. He was in the tunnels.

After a few minutes, cars started showing up. People in radiation suits got out and went down into the hole with some sort of equipment.

"Mom?" I asked. "Aren't those the bad men?"

"Don't worry, baby. They aren't bad anymore. They help your brother." I nodded. Suddenly, Will dropped to the ground, writhing in pain.

"Will." I dropped to my knees. "Will? What's wrong?"

"It hurts!" Will yelled. "It burns." I put my hand on his forearm. My breathing quickened as a burning discomfort overwhelmed my senses. It hurt, but not to the point of Will's pain. I was only feeling a partial of his pain. I shifted, trying to get the pain to go away.

"Y/N? What's wrong? Are you okay?"

"It burns, mom. It... hurts." I took my hand off of his arm, the pain remaining. "Help Will."
