"You missed another dinner. The fellow who wants to meet you is quite put out."

Rachel rolled her eyes it was only the second 'social gathering' she had missed in the last two weeks. At some point, she knew she would have to face her best friend.

"Detective Ballias, Using your badge to Fade into restricted sections for personal use again I see," she joked while turning to face him, "what brings you in today?"

"My wife forgot her lunch again," Ben said holding up a black insulated bag as proof. "So I stopped by to drop it off, breastfeeding moms can't miss meals and I know how distracted she can be here sometimes. You're evading my statement."

"Look, Ben," she sighed, "like I told Megan, two weeks ago I'm just not interested in another blind date."

"Fine," he sighed, "wait, why are you still here? Shouldn't you be in a potions research lab somewhere?"

The placement testing had come and gone, Rachel had passed it with flying colors all A's across the board (just more proof the previous tester purposely failed her!) However, at the same time, four members of the maternity staff had been arrested for placing tracking spells on newborns. Therefore, the ward was understaffed at the moment.

So Rachel decided to stick around, working with babies was amazing. Its not her dream job but its rewarding, there are non-magical doctors in the ward as well. They offer alternatives to Magic sensitive mothers during delivery. Learning more about the process intrigued Rachel and even though her lab coat was an official bright white now, she found herself still learning. Although she will never admit out loud that she loved being there.

"Did Megan not tell you?" Rachel asked, "my stay here has been extended. Someone in the labs conveniently misplaced my transfer information as well."

"Shame, well one department's loss is another's gain," He shrugged and handed her the lunch bag. "Be sure Megan gets this will you. I've gotta get back to the office I'm in the middle of a homicide case that needs my attention."

She accepted the bag "I will, and Ben... I'm serious about the setups. Your friends are just not my cup of tea."

The words were spoken to his receding back but the "yeah, yeah" and the wave of his hand told her he heard her. A commotion in the entry of the ward broke her concentration.

A loud gaggle of red heads almost fell through the swinging doors, surrounding a screaming woman in a wheelchair holding her stomach.

Rachel's eyes bulged at the group of people; it wasn't that rare of an occurrence for new mothers to have their whole family arrive with them. She made her way to the break area quickly to drop off the bagged lunch. She knew that it was only going to be a few minutes before she was paged to help with 'crowd control.'
