Jane's POV

Since Sunday's dinner, Maura has been completely and totally reserved. She only talks to me if I talk to her first and even then, she says as little as possible. I tried to get her to watch a movie with me last night. I even told her that I'd watch that stupid documentary on whales that she wanted to see. She said she was tired and just wanted to go take a shower and go to bed. I offered to join her, she said no. I was in bed by the time she was done in the shower and she went straight to the guest bedroom.

I don't know what I did wrong, and if I didn't do anything, I shouldn't have to suffer.

"Hey, Maur." I said, as she walked through the front door.

"Hello, Jane." She replied.

I stood and walked over to her, and she pushed past me to go upstairs.

"Okay Maura, What did I do? Why aren't you talking to me? Why are you angry with me?" I asked.

She stopped and turned on the stairs.

"You haven't done anything, Jane." She said coldly. "That's what you did wrong. That's why I'm angry with you. You didn't do anything on Sunday, you haven't done anything at all!"

"Do anything about what?" I asked. "Your parents? Now, all of a sudden I'm supposed to but into their lives?"

"You are supposed to support me! Be there for me! Stand up for me! That's what a good girlfriend does, Jane!"

"I'm right here, Maura! I've been right here! You don't willingly talk to me! I don't talk about your parents because it's a sensitive subject for you. I wait for you to talk about it out of respect for you."

"I've wanted to talk about it since Sunday, Jane!"

"So why didn't you bring it up then?!"

"I shouldn't have to say anything! You should know when I want to talk!"

"How the hell am I supposed to know that? I'm not a fucking mind reader!"

"We've been together for almost eight years! You should know!"

I sighed.

"Fine. You want to talk about your parents? We'll talk about your parents. Paddy and Constance are adults, and if they want to be together, they're going to be together, but you know what I think?"

Maura shook her head.

"I think that out of respect for you, and for Hope, they shouldn't pursue a relationship."

"Are you just saying that because you know it's what I want to hear?" Maura asked, coming back down the steps and walking towards me.

"No." I said. "It's how I really feel. They're adults, and they can do what they want, but Hope was your mother and the love of Paddy Doyle's life. We both know that if she were still alive, Hope and Paddy would be together. I think Paddy is just trying to fill the void Hope left in his heart when she died."

"What about my mother? I don't understand where her feelings for him came from."

"You dont even know if there are feelings. Constance is a natural flirt. She flirts with everything that has a-"

"Don't finish that sentence." Maura interrupted. "I want them to be happy, but I don't want them to be happy with each other."

"What does Desmond think?" I asked.

"I talked to him the other day. Apparently, there hasn't been a romantic encounter between the two of them in over a year. When I was a child, they were always sharing kisses and stealing glances at one another. I had always hoped I'd have a marriage as strong as theirs."

"Over a year?"

"They've been separated for a little over six months. By separated, I mean that Desmond doesn't plan on returning to Boston. Ever. They've agreed to get divorced."

"Oh, sweetie!" I said, as I wrapped my arms around my girlfriend. "I'm so sorry, baby."

I kissed the top of her head and she buried herself into me and let her tears fall.

"Sometimes divorce is the best thing for a relationship. I mean, look at us. We were fine, then we got married and everything started falling apart. Now, we aren't married anymore and we're stronger than ever."

"I still have your last name." Maura said, smiling through her tears.

"I know you do! That's why your students call you Dr. Isles-Rizzoli."

"I love you, Jay." Maura said.

"I love you too, Maur."
