New moon

He knew he shouldn't be there. He knew his mother would be worried about him. Yet despite this he couldn't help but be drawn further into the woods.

It was dark, no moon tonight, and he could feel a chilly breeze sweep over him. Yet he carried on deeper into the woods.

He stopped as he came to a small clearing. He realised he had no idea where he was going, he just wanted to get away from the ridiculous campfire sing-song his family insisted on having.

Then, in the distance, he could hear his younger brother shouting for him. He took another look around the clearing and headed in the direction of the shouting.

As he stumbled over the woodland floor he felt uneasy as if someone was watching him, he looked around but couldn't see anything other than endless trees so he carried on.

He slumped down on the log next to the campfire, his mum gave him a small smile and gave him a marshmallow on a stick, still feeling as if he was being watched.
