I have three options to begin the story
-Tord is sent on a mission but encounters the group unexpectedly, they dont know each other.
-Separately, Edd and Matt go to this bar they found living in this town for 2 weeks, and thats where they meet Tom, talkative stuff happens and the agree on all going to adventure getting out and traveling.
(Bouns: Tom has a dark secert, wait to the end or at least close to the end)
3-Backstory of Tom and Tord, Tord remembering what broke his heart, Tom and Tord broke up, because evil strong magical guys want a trade for him and give Tom the will to live, with the urge begging for him to not risk it, conflicting Tom choices because he wants to save Tord but the evil guys would kill insight if Tom moves a inch. They are trading because Tord will be very special as the science rat for them to toy with, Tom leaves unable to help and Tord thinks he's been betrayed (which doesn't make sense even tho he said not to risk it) because he's ever come back or spoken back in years.
Idk, choice whatever you want, or make up one if you'd like.
