Chapter 17 - Xrytos Arc

“Vye!” Gray called frantically, "Hey, wake up!"

His voice couldn’t reach her anymore. She had drifted into the darkness of her worst nightmare ever.

“What’s wrong with her?!” Jii-chan and the others approached them immediately.

“Her fever is too high!" Gray carried Vye on his arm and thinking of going back to their apartment to let her rest and treat her. However, before Gray could do that, the army from the Council, Rune Knights, arrived.

“Can’t they choose a better time to come?!” Jii-chan complained, already very anxious seeing his precious granddaughter in such a weak state. The army didn’t let them go anywhere. All of them were taken to the army camps to be interrogated about the guilds war.

Jii-chan couldn't let them interrogate Vye in such a state. After he explained the situation, they provided a tent for her to rest temporarily. Her injury was rather bad but it’s not critical. They treated most of her wounds but her fever didn't seem to be going down. It's getting worse and worse.

“… I’ll go get some ice.” Lucy said worriedly. She had never seen Vyera like this. She can't even imagine it. She was stopped by Gray before going out to get the ice.

“There is no need to.” He used his ice magic to freeze his hand and put it on her forehead, “This will do a better job.” Gray stayed with her throughout the night like that while explaining to the others about what had happened. Even so, nobody had the answer to her situation.

“… Crescent moon when the tenth month dies…” Erza mumbled while thinking hard, “Wait. Doesn’t it mean that it’s 31st October, her birthday? That’s tomorrow night.”

“… Tomorrow night…” everyone looked at the the sleeping Vyera, “Will something happen?”

Silence took over the situation. The next morning, her fever has somewhat reduced, but she had not wake up. Everyone else was taking turns to be interrogated by the army. Around evening, an unexpected group of three appeared in Vye's tent without arousing any suspicion from the army.

“… Who are you guys?” Gray shot a question at them directly when they entered the tent. There are a girl, a boy and a young man.

“Don’t be so rude, boy. We have had a lot of troubles trying to avoid the guards to get here…” said the girl rudely, which caught Gray by surprise. The boy and the young man followed her into the tent. Gray and the usual gang recognised the boy while Jii-chan recognised the girl.

Meanwhile, after she fainted, Vye woke up in the darkness. She could see nothing but herself. She was pretty much okay now, without the fever and the pain. While trying to look around for clues, once again, the image of her previous nightmare appeared. The corpses of her comrades were lying in front of her. It almost drove her insane. For a moment there, she was rendered unconscious.

However, when she regained consciousness, she was already chained on her hands and legs, onto a human size stone wall while there was nothing in the surroundings, “What is this?!” she tried to break the chains but a voice suddenly echoed in the darkness, “… It's useless…”

“Who is there?” Vyera said in alert.

Something appeared in front of her, a pair of red eyes with… a black soul. It was full of evil magic power, “… I’m once called Xrytos…” The voice said, now originating from the evil soul.

“... No way… The demon king of despair and destruction…” Vyera recalled. Her Master told her about the demon before. Even though Vyera couldn’t see it very clearly due to the dark surrounding, but she could feel that he’s smirking. “I’m honored to be known by my own vessel…” he said.
