In the quiet when the city sleeps

I hear the voice in my mind say

What serendipity that brings

Stars in line at the end of day

Is just a happenstance that keeps

Hearts with hope of love at bay

Never to be held in the arms

Of the lovingly coveted

Not to be appreciated

By the object of desire

Forlorn and left to be wilted

Some forgotten rose by the fire
