Is it villainy or is it love

That could explain the ceaseless trials

Of the cold cold wind

That endeavors to sweep her

Off the unyielding ground?

Steal her away to a place

Sing to her in its doting sound

And wrap her in soft embrace.

Is it destiny or is it love

That could explain the heartless reluctance

And resistance of the rose

Bound so firmly to the earth?

Swaying and nodding

Wilting and withering over time.

Unable to give succor

Or solace of any kind.
