A/N: Song?
Overcoming this new obstacle grew incredibly hard, as it turned out over the next week.
The worst part about the new revelation was that Zayn had been one of Harry's only friends in the new school. The times Harry had tried joining his usual group had been extremely tense. Niall had at least tried to be friendly and include Harry, but Liam had mirrored Zayn's actions, meaning ignoring Harry blatantly.
And even though Harry was grateful that Niall tried, he felt that the fake blonde was still more on Zayn's side than Harry's, which was understandable since they had known each other longer. While they had always been friendly, there had always been a deeper loyalty between the three other boys that Harry had tried to ignore before the encounter with Louis and Zayn.
Now, though, it had become blatant and unpleasant for Harry.
That was one of the reasons he was currently seated on one of the desks in a deserted music class room with Louis opposite of him. Louis had left a message in Harry's locker, telling him to meet him there for lunch since the music teacher who was normally teaching in this class room on this day was absent and nobody was bound to come. Harry had happily obliged, especially because they urgently needed to talk about what had happened with Zayn.
The first minutes they just made small talk, neither of them knowing how to breach the subject or if the other even wanted it to be breached. Finally, it was Louis who gave in.
"Thank you."
Harry looked up from his sandwich ,"What?" Louis looked cute with his shoe-less foot tucked under his other legs thigh, Harry thought briefly.
"Thank you." Louis repeated.
"For what?" Harry frowned, confused at the random confession of gratitude.
"Trusting me. Standing up for me. You know, with Zayn." Louis explained. "This must have been a shock for you."
"A bit." Harry admitted. After another few moments of unsure silence he casually tried again, "Can I ask you something?"
Louis looked up hesitantly, like he was scared what that might be, but said, "Sure."
"Why didn't you tell me you were..." Harry paused, looking for the right wording, "had... something with Zayn? Do you still have feelings for him?"
„Those are two questions." Louis grinned teasingly, but pursed his lips in thought at the look on his boyfriend's face. The last question made Harry's stomach clench unpleasantly. „I guess this whole thing, you and me, it just felt like... outside reality, you know? Just you and me and the rest of the world didn't seem relevant."
Harry nodded. He kind of understood what Louis meant. Somehow the encounter between Zayn and Louis had made this whole relationship more real, like there had been two different worlds that were now clashing together, and Harry as scared of the explosion, especially because it might destroy one of the worlds. Or both.
"Well, are there any other past affairs I need to know about?" Harry asked.
„Zayn wasn't an affair!" Louis exclaimed indignantly. Harry was not sure if he was offended about Harry assuming Louis had affairs or the description of Zayn and Louis' relationship as an affair. He had the unpleasant feeling that it was the latter though.
"What was he then? You're getting awfully defensive of him." Harry accused.
„He was an almost- boyfriend. And there are no other past relationships or something. What about you?"
Harry noticed that Louis had added the last part rather hastily, like he wanted to get the attention off of himself. He decided to indulge this time. "Nothing. Well, at least if you don't count the awkward relationship with a girl named Amy when I was thirteen."
