Jade mountain high

Chapter 1 (POV Peril)

This was it. The moment her life had been building up to. Peril stood outside the gates of Jade Mountain high and grinned. She walked up to the gate and stood between the border of between the school and the parking lot. I wonder if I'll make any friends here? She thought. Peril took a deep breath and stepped into school properly. She did this just as a group of rough-looking boys came and raced through the gates and swept past her, making her spin and falling to the ground. She touched her head gingerly and realised that she had dropped her backpack and most of the content had fallen out and was rolling across the road and the sidewalk. CRAP! First day of school and I'm already being pushed around. She shot a glare at the backsides of the boys who had ran past her and folded up her arms with a snort. When she looked up she saw a hand reach down and help her up. It was a boy with hazel coloured hair and deep brown eyes."Hey there!",he said cheerfully,"You new here? I'm Clay by the way. Heh. That rhymed." He handed Peril her backpack and grinned at her.

"Oh hi. I'm Peril. Erm... nice to meet you... Clay." Stupid! STUPID! Ugh. Why do I always embarrass myself in front cute boys?

"Cool name. Oh, I'm sorry about the things on the road..." He turned and pointed to all the things that had rolled on to the road. They had all been smashed underneath the wheels of cars driving by. The broken items consisted of a blue biro, three coloring pencils, a piece of chalk that has been crumbled and gave a little splash of color on the grey tarmac. There was also an eraser which had been splashed with car fuel from a dodgy, broken down van. What a great start to my first day of high school. Peril thought grudgingly.

After that disaster Peril had decided to sit on a bench in the playground and play on her phone to pass the time until the teachers call everyone in. She had thought that she was late for school but apparently everyone else was usually even later so it didn't really matter. A loud girl suddenly burst through the gates and called out to a random boy on the football pitch. She had bright blue hair and was wearing a white shirt with a blue star on it and blue cotton shorts with a white star. She was carrying a black backpack with a white stripe down the middle of it in one hand, and a football in the other. "Hey you!", she shouted,"You're the new girl right? I'm Tsunami by the way. I see you've already met Clay." She bounced the ball up and down then caught it with the back of her neck then flipped it off her head and into the palm of her hand. Wow. Peril thought. I wish I could cool things like that. She stared into the palms of her hand then clenched them up. I can't think about that right now. I've just got to seem like a normal person until the time seems right. "Hi, there! I'm Peril. That thingy that you just did there with the ball was totally awesome! I wish I could do that. I take it your good at sports?" She looked Tsunami up and down and realized that she was wearing the school PE kit, not her choice of clothes. "Well, I guess you could say that I enjoy every sport with an extreme amount of passion." She kicked the back to the other side of the playground and it landed perfectly in the net. "GOAL," a bunch of boys shouted across the football pitch on the left side of the playground.

"Just so you know, you might want to keep away from Kestrel the PE teacher. Luckily we don't have her this year since she only teaches grades 8 and 9 so we won't be getting her for that subject. But there is a small chance that we might get her for English which will be terribly bad luck if we do. So fingers crossed we don't get her for any subject. I was unlucky both years and I got her for PE and English. And I'm absolutely terrible at English so she shouted at me ALOT last year. And I only JUST got a passing grade so I could move up a grade. Trust me it was INTENSE!"

"Ohhhhhh, that might be a problem." Peril wondered how she could break this to Tsunami. "Kestrel is my mother."
