Chapter Six: She Knows

^I'm really craving waffles right now

This is at the end of the school year of when Ethan leaves for college.

"Hey Mal, can I talk to you for a second?" Ethan asked his sister. He planned on telling her about how he felt towards Scout.

"Yeah what's up?" Mallory said walking in and closing the door behind her.

"I don't really know how to say it but, I have a crush on Scout." Ethan said hurriedly trying to get this over with.

"Okay." Mallory said shrugging her shoulders.

"It's just, I need you to keep her a virgin and safe for me while I'm gone." Ethan said running his had through his hair.

"How long have you had a crush on her?" Mallory asked.

Ethan shrugged. "I was in sixth grade and she was in second."

"DUDE!" Mallory shrieked. "The hell?"

"I know, I can't help it though." Ethan tried to defend himself.

"Fine, I'll babysit your future wifey for ya." Mallory said kicking Ethan in the shin. "And before you ask, no I won't tell her. ANY OF IT."

Ethan nodded. "Thanks Sis."

"That's the only reason I am doing this. I want her to become my sis in law." Mallory grumbled as she walked out the door and slammed it shut behind her.

Ethan nodded gravely. That went way better than he thought it would. Ethan nodded to himself and then got back to work packing for College.

He was going to NYU so he would be very far from them in Indiana.

There was a knock on his door. "Come in." Ethan grumbled.

It was his Mom.

"Hey sweetie. How is packing going?" She asked him as she closed the door behind her.

"Good." Ethan replied.

"How are you doing with the whole leaving Scout thing?" She asked folding up one of his shirts.

"Did Mallory tell you?" Ethan asked feeling afraid.

"No. I'm your Mother. You think I haven't seen the way you look at her?" She said nonchalantly.

"How long have you known?" Ethan asked.

"That night with the pizza where you ran for two hours in sixth grade." She said sitting on his bed.

"I could tell it pained you to hear Scout talking about that boy." His mom said patting his shoulder.

"Oh. Does Scout know?" Ethan asked feeling worried.

"No. Mallory isn't going to tell her and I certainly won't." She said with a smile on her face.

"Thanks Momma." Ethan said hugging his Mother, tears filling both of their eyes.

"I'm going to miss you Ethan." His Mother sobbed.

"I'm going to miss you too Mom." Ethan cried into his Mom's hair.
