the lowly ferns

The ferns hang their heads low, tonight;
When with dumb, buzzing wings,
ecstasy mounts for her flight
far from their thirsting fronds.

Snowfall can only cooly console them.
Its own icy prescription to fill.
If they were in the cabinet—
nothing can heal like sunflowers will.
