Chapter 4: Hope Fades

Beacon Academy - Vale - Remnant
It's been two months since Y/n just up and left Beacon Academy, nobody has heard anything from him or anything about the young Huntsman. Y/n's sister, Coco, has been stressing out not knowing where her brother is or if he's even alive. Ozpin has been sending teams out into the forest where Y/n was last seen, only to return empty handed, this did nothing to reinforce Coco's trust in the young Headmaster and her teammates knew it. Two things mattered to Coco, fashion and her younger brother, he was the only family she has left, the tension in team CFVY's dorm was at an all time high, Coco was constantly pacing from the door to the window, Velvet, Yatsuhashi and Fox were trying to calm her down but to no avail.

"There's something he's not telling us you guys, I mean how can you just lose a student? Granted Y/n didn't take his scroll with him, but not one of the 28 teams that Ozpin has sent out into the forest has brought back a shred of evidence."

Velvet placed a hand on her friends shoulder giving her a concerned expression, even though Coco was the leader of the team, she often relied on Velvet for support and advice in certain situations and this was one of those times.

"Coco, Y/n will turn up. If anything we can ask Ozpin to send us out to look for him, you know what Y/n would do better than any of us which would only increase the chances of us finding something in regards to his whereabouts."

Velvet's words soothed Coco's emotions albeit rather subtly, she had somewhat calmed down and wasn't about to punch a hole in the nearest wall at the incompetence of the hunters at Beacon and at Ozpin's disposal. First thing in the morning Coco would formally request that teams CFVY and RWBY head out into the forest in search of her younger brother, for anything if not closure.

Earth - Cosmodrome - The Divide
After blasting his way out of The Breach, Y/n and his Ghost, Tes were granted the sight of a Fallen Ketch breaking orbit flanked by numerous Fallen Skiffs, transports for the Fallen ground forces. Seeing a Ketch this close to the surface of Earth prompted a reaction out of Tes.

"A Fallen Ketch! This close to the surface!? We need to move head for Dock-13 there are readings of an old Jumpship that we can use to get out of here and to the Last City."

Y/n gave a nod and took off in the direction of Dock-13, just as a Fallen Skiff was dropping in more ground troops to try and kill him. Just another day at the office, Y/n readied his Shock Rifle as he closed in on the Fallen releasing burst after burst of Arc rounds at the enemy that dared to block his path. Crossing the open ground in front of him Y/n pulled out his combat knife and blocked an incoming Shock knife catching the blades in lock while picking off Fallen with the Shock Rifle. Shifting his grip on the knife Y/n kicked the legs of the Fallen Dreg out from under it and finished it with his knife as he continued on towards Dock-13 and the awaiting Jumpship.

"You know Y/n, if I didn't know any better I'd say that just from your current performance in combat, I'd say that you were in the military. Who taught you how to fight like this?"

Y/n finished off a Fallen Vandal with a head shot and threw his knife into a Dreg effectively clearing out the remainder of the Fallen in the area as he replied to his Ghost.

"No one really taught me how to fight, save for my Combat teacher back home, Professor Goodwitch. Even started giving me extra lessons afterwards to try and help out. They didn't help out back home, but they're proving their worth now."

Y/n walked over to the deceased Dreg and pulled his knife out and sheathed it before continuing into Dock-13. As Y/n entered the Dock his Ghost appeared and began inspecting the Jumpship all the while Y/n was in complete awe. The closest thing Remnant had to something like this was the Atlesian Air Fleet. As his Ghost carried out its inspection, Y/n began to explore the dock for anything that might prove even remotely useful.

"Okay, you want the good news or the bad news?"

"Uh they say no news is good news but, we'll go bad news."

"Okay, bad news this ship hasn't made a jump in centuries, and it's warp drive is completely catatonic."

Y/n bashed open a crate with the butt of his Shock Rifle and pulled out a Better Devils Hand Cannon, placing the hand cannon on the crate to his right Y/n proceeded to pull out a Morrigan-D Rocket Launcher, thus completing his loadout.

"Okay so that's the bad news, what's the good news?"

"I can get it working, thankfully we don't need to break orbit to get to where we need to go."

Y/n returned to the center of the Dock with his new equipment in tow stunned and excited by what his Ghost had just said.

"So if we find a warp drive, we can break Orbit?"

"Pretty much, in a nut shell."

"Alright! We have got to tick that off the list ASAP!"

Tes chuckled heartily at Y/n as he showed excitement at being able to warp from planet to planet. One thing that most Guardians don't do is figure out what makes their Ghosts tick, but Tes was happy that she's got a one of a kind Guardian.

"Now you're talking! Get over here and we'll -"

Tes was cut off as a roar was heard coming through the vents as well as numerous Fallen scampering down the walls of the dock, and through the open gates leading into the Steppes as well as a few Captains thrown into the mix.

"BRINGING YOU IN!"

Within an instant of calling out to her Guardian, Tes brought Y/n into the Arcadia Class Jumpship breaking the clamps holding the Jumpship from the sealing and blasting the engines incinerating some of the Fallen and blasting out of the Cosmodrome. 

Beacon Academy - The next day
Coco's Pov

It's been way to long since I've heard anything from my brother, the teams that Ozpin's been sending out have always come back empty handed, claiming that there is no sign of him. But I know Y/n he'd have left some clues somewhere, and it would be so blatantly obvious that even a monkey could figure it out. Ozpin sent out a page over the P.A. system calling for teams RWBY, JNPR and my own, as well as Cardin to meet him in his office, I was hoping that he'd finally found something. As my team and I made our way to Ozpin's office we bumped into Cardin who had a puzzled look on his face as to why he was being brought into this.

"Oh Coco, I didn't see you there. You get called to Professor Ozpin's office as well?"

"Yeah, same as teams RWBY and JNPR."

"You reckon this is something to do with Y/n? You think they've finally found him?"

"We're hoping that they've found something Cardin."

Cardin and my team turned around and saw teams RWBY and JNPR coming our way, ever since Y/n's disappearance two months ago, we've all been worried about him. Vel hardly sleeps anymore and as a result her grades are suffering, but the teachers are rather understanding given the circumstances. The thirteen of us hopped in the elevator up to Ozpin's office, I couldn't help but feel dread starting to worm its way into the air like a sickness. The doors opened and we were met with Ruby and Yang's uncle, Weiss' sister, Professor Ozpin and Professor Goodwitch all of which had solemn expressions adorned on their faces. My worst fears had come to light. My brother is gone.
