no man's island

come sit
on my
soft and smooth
plush and light
sofa
here,
beside me please,
to my right,
leave your keys
next to the door,
drop your bags
on the floor
and come here,
just be.

I have had no company
no guest-
oh! won't you have some tea?
let me get the kettle going-
as I was saying,
I have been alone.
some memories
sang on their own,
a few
reminiscent of
beautiful embroidery
winking and blinking
in the moonlight
of my solitude.
oh I know!
it sounds like a big bore,
but tell you what
it's not.
I know
silence roars
'round the corner
it bleeds your ears,
but it feeds me
well!

I was cleaning up the other day,
looking for something to be exact,
poking and prodding
every nook and cranny,
scratching the paint,
tearing down walls,
lifting the pots,
dusting with old shawls
I don't find them rot-
but indefinitely gone-
my flock of iridescent birds!

I called them Words.

there's only some feathers,
in their cages left.
they must have flown off
at dawn
when I turned
toward artwork,
coloring nostalgia,
pulling the threads of past
in my head.

I never heard
their clap and tap!
how could they
leave me
just like that?

oops! sorry!
you are still at the door!
please come in, I insist!
I haven't had any one over
in a long long time,
let's catch up,
over some snacks-
I will fix the tea
with some lime-
oh? you say, you are going back?
won't you stay?
why are you going away?
take me with you!
I want to come too!
just a second, please!
let me lock up these!
wear the feathers
my birds left
in my hair!
I look bovine
without my Words!
oh, won't you wait?
I promise, I won't be late!
I will race you to the gate,
I wish you would take me
oh, you are busy?
okay...

bye.
