I was woken up the next morning by a vaguely familiar tune playing out of Moa-chan's speakers. It almost sounded like a folk song I had to sing in kindergarten, but darker.
When I looked across the room, I saw Moa silence her phone before smiling at me. "Good morning, Yui-chan!" All that I could think of for a moment was how beautiful her smile was, but I quickly banished that thought from my head.
"Good morning, Moa-chan. What was that song that you were playing?"
"Oh, I hope you don't mind, it's a song by that group BABYMETAL- have you heard of them?" The name sounded vaguely familiar, but I couldn't place it.
"I have... but I can't remember where."
"They're the metal band that's really popular, they're like 19 or something, they used to wear really cute outfits but nowadays their live shows have gotten really weird."
"Oh yeah! I remember them. My brother was in love with the lead singer..." My eyes welled up as I thought about my brother. He was my best friend, my protector...
"Yui? Are you okay?"
I quickly wiped my eyes. "Yeah, just yawning. Can you play that song?" Moa looked confused at my request, but quickly obliged.
"Ah, it's right. Always women are actresses.
We're not foxes, not deceiving,
but maiden-like female foxes.
Ah, girls are becoming more like an ideal woman
Smiling at face, crying at heart
Saying "it's right," we never show our tears."
I begin to cry again, as the words struck a chord in my heart. How badly I wanted to tell someone about everything that was happening! But I had to stay strong. I couldn't let anybody else in, nor could I let Moa in further. It was too risky. I could end up getting hurt again.
"Yui-chan, what's wrong?"
"Oh, nothing." I tried to wipe at my eyes to conceal the evidence, but it was no use. She had already caught me crying twice.
"Yui-chan, Moa-chan knows when something is wrong. I'm incredibly perceptive. Tell me the truth here."
"I... I can't."
"Come on, Yui-chan! Please just let me help you!" I became ashamed of myself as she started crying. But she was still beautiful. Even when she cried, she was beautiful. But I couldn't make her feel like this.
"Alright, alright, just please, don't cry! I'll tell you the truth if it means that much to you." Moa looked up at me and wiped her eyes.
"The truth is, I'm having some family issues." She looked at me briefly before realization dawned on her face.
"You're running away, aren't you! Oh my god, I can't have a runaway living in my house, my parents-"
"Eh? No, no, no! I'm not running away, Moa-chan!"
"Then what?"
"Well..." She looked puzzled for a moment before she realized what I was saying.
"No."
"Yes."
"Yui-chan, were you kicked out?"
