Cedric Diggory was charming. Strong and silent, his was a specific kind of charming. The kind that was alluring to all those that looked upon him, taken in by his mysterious persona, and utterly breathtaking to those that were able to interact with him, struck by the force of the dazzling smile he kept tucked away for safe keeping, lest the whole of the Wizarding World dropped dead at the sight of it.
Yet while Cedric was known as perfectly composed, there was one person who could render him a complete and utter mess: Cason Ellesmere. Cason, with his disinterested demeanor, tightly upturned lips, and throaty drawl, he was in a constant state of both pure composure and utter debauchery, his lips cherry red from the constant stream of blood-flavored lollipops he had in his possession, holding them with a lose precision few could imitate.
Despite all expectations, Cedric was unable to so much as walk two steps without stumbling or stuttering, completely melting when in the general vicinity of the Slytherin boy. Cason's intense stare bored holes into the Hufflepuff prefect, rendering him vulnerable to any and all advances the boy made, leaning far too close for comfort, smirking around the blood-red lollipop as he whispered about how Cedric dropped his quill or forgot to knot his tie correctly. His nonchalance was infuriating, as was his penchant for driving Cedric up the wall.
But when Cedric found himself to be Cason's unwitting hero, rescuing him from some older boys by using his prefect status against them, the Hufflepuff and Slytherin find themselves spending more and more time together, Cason much more reserved than Cedric had initially anticipated, finding that he was more apt for awkward laughs and subtle glances than the forward approach he normally took.
As the two boys grow closer, they find that there is more to the other than meets the eye, and with the world quickly descending into chaos around them, it seemed all they could cling to were cherry red lips and composed chaos.

— ADDITIONAL NOTES:
1. This is literally based around me watching the first 10 minutes of Life (2015) don't even @ me, if you're gonna take this plot, you need to watch this movie, or at least the first 10 minutes, because there's a certain tension you need to be able to visualize
2. Cason is actually really reserved, but it's easier for him to put up a facade so he can actually get through the day like a functioning human being
3. Cedric's personality doesn't immediately change just because Cason affects him, he's still the fair, good hearted, strong and silent boy that we all know and love, he just trips over his own feet more
4. If you take this into GoF, Cason does not replace Cho. In fact, Cho is still a very prevalent part of Cedric's life, she's just a really good friend rather than a girl he likes, but maybe Cason misinterprets their relationship. Either way, they don't go to the ball together; Cason doesn't like that kind of thing, so he most likely elects not to go.
5. Cason's mom is currently in St. Mungo's while his father works for the Ministry, you can decide the circumstances that caused them both to wind up there, but he and his father are estranged, his father isn't necessarily terrible, they just can't communicate
6. You can keep Cedric alive at the end—I did that with my own Cedric fic—and if you're going to, come talk to me because I have a few ideas as to how he can live without completely ruining the effect that his death has on the overall world and narrative of the canon story
7. Talk to me about any ideas you have, as this story is very important to me and while I intentionally kept things vague so you can change them, that doesn't mean that I can't stop you in the event you choose to do something that could turn the story into something it really shouldn't be
