"Evelyn, remember to not leave this house. Your father and I have already stocked the fridge and pantry with everything you'll need until we get back in a few days."

"Yes mother, I know," Evelyn sighed.

"We will celebrate your birthday when we get back, dear. It's quite unfortunate that this business trip was scheduled for the same week. We just couldn't get out of it. It's very important for the company."

Evelyn nodded, already knowing the whole speech. It was the same one she got every year since her sixteenth birthday.

"Remember to not leave the house, Evelyn," her mother reminded for the umpteenth time.

"Mother, I'm seventeen years old. I'll be eighteen in two days. I think I can fend for myself. What's the big deal?"

"Evelyn Marie Reynolds you will not leave this house under any circumstances." Her mother stated sternly. "Do you understand me?"

Evelyn sighed, bending her head in submission. "Yes, mother."

"Good. We will see you in a week, Evelyn."
