The birds were chirping, the sun was shining, and the girls (as usual) were crying.

It had been a few weeks since we had been taken. Mandy Hodges' parents had paid the ransom for her life, and she was leaving today. She was to be blindfolded and tranquilized, then drove to a field or something in the middle of nowhere. Once the gang members safely arrived back, they'd call the police and tell them where she was located.

I eavesdrop a lot.

But before she left to go back to whatever wonderful life she had before, we were all gathered so we could say goodbye, hence all the crying. To be honest, I'm not sure whether the girls were crying because they were going to miss Mandy, were happy for her, or were just upset she was going home and the rest of us could be stuck here more the rest of our miserable lives.

So I was stuck sitting in a room full of girls seething with jealously and extreme sadness. Apparently while I had been attempting to escape, we were introduced to some other girls that had also been kidnapped. I recognized one or two from the news, one of which who was sobbing on my shoulder.

"Shhhh, it'll be okay. You should be happy for her," I tried my best to comfort her. It didn't help. I didn't really expect it too, but I though I ought to try.

"Am I not good enough to have my ransom paid?" She sobbed, smearing snot on my now-wet shirt.

I sighed, "I'm sure they're gathering money right now to get you."

She sniffed, "You think so?"

No.

"Yes, of course I do," I said as gently as possible. She sniffed again before bursting out into another round of wailing. I sigh and look around the room. Mandy is sobbing while hugging her best friend Mindy, promising to find her way back to save everyone. I roll my eyes. Mandy has no chance to valiantly save her friends, the guys here are built. She can't do it.

But the police may be able to, and Mandy will be going straight to the police. I quickly stand up and begin walking to Mandy. The guards around the edge of the room shift, watching me anxiously. Of course, I had tried to escape before. They'd be stupid not to expect some plan from me.

I abruptly burst into hysterics, sobbing as I rushed to where Mandy was. Out of the corner of my teary eyes I saw the gangs members relax slightly. I almost cracked a grin, but managed to keep my devastated face going.

"OH, MANDY!" I screeched, internally cringing at how stupid I was acting. The crowd parted slightly and I could see confusion in her face, wondering why the girl she used to bully with everyone else was so affected by her leaving. "I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE  YOU'RE LEAVING! I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M EVER GOING TO DO WITHOUT YOU!"

Mandy started to edge away from me, but I saw what she was doing and lunged at her. She gave a small squeak as I wrapped my arms around in in what looked like a giant hug but was preventing her from leaving.

"OH PLEASE MANDY, DO ME A FAVOR WHEN YOU GET OUT," I fake sob. She hastily nods, ready to do anything to get me off of her.

"TELL YOUR BROTHER POE OUR NAMES-"

Confused, Mandy started, "But I don't have a-" I cut her off with intense loud sobbing.

"OH, POE. TELL POE-POE ALL OF OUR NAMES, OKAY? DON'T FORGET ANY! AND TELL HIM ALL ABOUT THIS HUGE PLACE THAT HAS A SWIMMING POOL AND PRETTY WOODS ALL AROUND IT, OK?" I beg, hiccuping slightly. Mandy's eyes widen slightly and she nods.

"Of course, I'll tell Poe-Poe that you miss him very much and how big this place is. I'll also tell him you're keeping everyone safe," Mandy nods, maintaining eye contact. She wants me to watch over and help all the girls while she's gone. It's a fairly simple task, but not one i'm particularly up for. Half these girls have pushed me down in the hallways at least once, one of them being Mandy herself. I'm much more of a lone wolf.
