I grew up in a community
Where it's common to hear about
Drugs,
Homicides,
Suicides,
And all the things you wouldn't expect a child to hear about.
I live in a world
Where my skin color can get me
Fired,
Killed,
Insulted,
And derogatory comments thrown my way.
My parents have warned me
That my life would be hard.
Harder than most,
And only because I am
Black
Female
And would stop at nothing to continue my education.
In today's world,
Where the racial tensions are high,
Where it's as if every person of the human race
Does not bleed the same color,
Breathe the same air,
Or need the same balance of homeostasis to live,
I want to make a change.
I may be one person,
But even one person making one insignificant change
Can truly impact the future.
