Chapter 4

                         Chapter 4

The rest of the mission went smoothly; we were all able to track Maximus Ramona to a garage and arrived in time to find a lorry carrying the shipment of cocaine. Everyone involved was arrested and the drugs unit safely disposed of the cocaine. It was late into the night, or rather early into the morning when the four of us arrived back into the institute.

The boss ordered us to meet in the meeting room to discuss the pros and cons of the mission and write up a summary to put on our records. I was so tired but as this was my first mission, I wanted to make my report the best it could be.
Once inside the building I took my heels off and put on some emergency socks I had in my bag. My feet killed!

"What are you doing?" Daniel asked disapprovingly.

"My feet hurt," I said simply.

Merritt hid a smile and Jack chuckled.
"You are a strange girl, Annie."

We made it to the meeting room and as the mission went smoothly, there was no need to write anything on the negatives so the report was done in about 20 minutes. I'd finished mine before the others and waited on the sofa so we could all leave together.

                  Jack's POV

Annalise had fallen asleep on the sofa, still holding onto her shoes with her feet curled up underneath her. She was still so young and she looked even more childlike asleep. I didn't want to wake her so I shushed the others and scooped her up. Danny rolled his eyes but Merritt winked at me and I shook my head at them both but couldn't stop the small smile on my face.

They'd been winding me up about a crush on Annalise whenever she wasn't around but I had been vehemently denying it - she'd never feel the same about me.

Even so, I carried her back to her room, managing to undo the door with my elbow. I carefully lay her down on the bed and put her shoes neatly away in the wardrobe. She'd just have to sleep in her dress tonight. I tucked her in and put her head on the pillow, but her bun looked uncomfortable so I carefully undid it the best I could and flattened her blonde hair down. God she was beautiful. I couldn't help myself and kissed her forehead quickly before turning to leave the room.

"Night, Jack," she mumbled from the bed and I said goodnight and left to get some sleep myself.

               3 months later

                Annalise's POV

I'd been a spy for a few months now and was loving it - the danger, the adventure, the sense of belonging. Even Danny was being nicer to me. I'd been on loads of missions, anything from car chases, catching bank robbers and seducing scammers. It was a fun life and nothing had gone horribly wrong so far, we'd had a few close calls but nothing major - we're all still alive and unharmed.

The mission today was to follow one of the most dangerous gangs in the city - Red X. They were known for a variety of crimes - anything from drug dealing and petty theft to murder and kidnapping. It was a dangerous mission but I lived for the  thrill and all we had to do was arrest their leader and get the others to confess.

We'd all be travelling in one car and we were equipped with weapons for protection. Agents in the tracking branch had given us the location of their hideout and a description of the leader, our job was to find them.

                2 hours later

The mission didn't go as planned, in fact, it was going pretty bad. We hadn't been able to locate the leader but the members we did find weren't happy. The four of us decided to split up and go into close combat to escape. We were all injured, Merritt had disappeared, we were hours behind schedule in a foreign city at night and I was currently getting flirted with by a disgusting old man.

"Come on, chica, you're better than these men. Let me show you a fun time, eh." His hands were all over me and I was corned into the wall. I was a good fighter but the man was double the size of me and also trained to kill. Every time I managed to slip round him, this man or another one, just as strong would be cornering me again.

Not to mention, I could speak Spanish but I wasn't going to let them know that. Unfortunately I could understand the derogatory things they were saying about me but I had to stay quiet. His hands had just touched somewhere they shouldn't and I was about to kick him where the sun don't shine,  when he was in a choke hold against the wall.

"Jack?" I asked in disbelief, I hadn't seen him in about half an hour and he had been stationed at the other side of the building. I saw Daniel and Merritt too and I sighed in relief. We managed to run to the car and drove away quickly without getting followed.
