Dodger and Charley merely stared at her with a startled look, they were shocked about Valerie's question and about her gang's death.

"You-you're gang...died? All t'day?" Charley asked, giving no respond to the previous query.

"Yes...they all died! They all died! It brings a shame to me, they all left leavin' me wivout a single penny!" Valerie broke into turbulent and hysterical sobs that even the two boys whom she scarcely knew felt...at least...unusual guilt.

"I was stupid! I'm an impudent, stupid, an' evil child! How dare I left 'em burnin' to death! I wish I just entered tha burnin' house so that I died wiv them." The miserable gothic child mourned with bitterness in her voice, she forgot that two of her rivals were in the very front of her, she forgot the she was once emotionless. Dodger stared at the sorrowful creature with fervent and deep eyes, those emotions were rarely felt, for some reason, Dodger somewhat felt a little love for The Villainess.

"If ye don't mind, would ya want ta join out gang instead of dyin' out 'ere?" Dodger offered.

"NO!" The Villainess shot her head up, revealing a damp face, and a firm answer, "We're s'pose to hate each other, now go away."

"Our gang leaders hated each other, dat doesn't mean we aught (ought) to h'ate each other as well." Charley advised solemnly, causing to cease Valerie's bitter sobs. Valerie silenced, and looked up to them with her existing tear-streaked face, and said:

"Why you's wanna help me?" she said in a low voice.

"We needed new recruits...and, we 'ave at least been friends." Dodger replied, "Now come along." That was a sudden. Valerie didn't know why they recruited her without even having a long explanation. The three of them trudged along the roads in complete awkward silence, they uttered no word, and their shoulders would tense up when their side arms brushed against each other.

Valerie stopped mourning but the tears still remained, she is still in complete shock and grief that she could not help but cast a side glance at Dodger and will end up staring at him.

"What's yer name?" Asked Dodger as if to make an excuse to break the existing awkward silence between them, "We can't keep calling ye The Villainess all the time."

"Ya shan't know, you oughtn't." Valerie replied with her usual mysterious way of talking, "My real name shall remain anonymous until I trust the both o' you enough."

"I've ne'er encountered such a girl before." Charley exclaimed in disbelief and followed by a cheeky laugh.

"Don't mind 'im. I'm sure tha others will like ye, the other boys and Fagin is fond of mysterious lads. And yer in right company." Dodger tried to cheer Valerie up but it was no of use, Valerie remained silent as the wind, she was still miserable, but somehow Dodger and Charley enlightened her broken soul.

The rest of their walk was awkward and quiet, the three of them would only cast a look at each other and will slightly nod.

It was already getting darker by that time, the street lights were lighted, people are getting fewer in sum, and fresh night air filled the atmosphere, providing a romantic calming feeling.
