This. This voice... No! It can't be him. My boss out of all people out there?
Me out of all girls out there?
The blind Lailah.
AHMED
"AssalamoAlaikum." I said, sitting on the couge. A slightly bent head caught my attention a certain Niqabi.
So, she lived here it seems.
She suddenly got up and excused herself going to what looked like the kitchen.
I was OK with aunti and uncle's choice until...
Ahmed, this is Lailah and Lailah This is Ahmed." she said. Out of so much nervousness I haven't noticed when she had come carrying a tray with tea and snacks.
I had a lump in my throat, I couldn't speak.
"Well, children we will leave you here in some privacy to ask each other some questions." Lailah's sister said.
"Do not worry Lailah dear, we will be close enough to see you so if you feel any uncomfortable, you can always call one of us." her other sister said.
And so, we both stayed alone. We worked together. For Allah's sake, what would I even ask her?" I thought to myself.
"AssalamoAlaikum" I said and she lifted her head in my direction.
"WaalaikuAssalam." she quietly and nervously said.
LAILAH
I was so nervous, my hands getting cold. It was a suffocating silence before he spoke.
"How are you today?" he said.
"Um. I'm well Alhamdulillah. What about you?"
"I'm so-so but Alhamdulillah alive."
do you have anything to ask me?" he said.
"Yes, only 2 questions."
"Are you forced into this marriage?"
"No, I'm not. It was my parents wish." he said, but I could feel the nervousness in his voice.
"And my second question is: Are you ready to accept a blind girl if you ever want to marry me? I ask this because it's not easy for any of us and I feel like a burden on everyone..." He cut me off mid sentence and said
"Yes, if Allah has willed for us to marry, then I promise to keep you always happy and never make you feel like a burden on me." he said and it brought a smile to my face.
''Ya Allah! He's a pious man, grand him good in this world and in the next.'' I silently prayed in my heart.
We talked for what not else after the tension got a bit not so awkward. We found a lot of similarities which was good I suppose. Soon it was time for them to depart and I couldn't say that they weren't a good family.
After all, we had lost our parents and as it seems things are still not completely com.
The elders decided that they will wait for my answer.
Soon after they left I went to my room and changed into my comfortable clothes.
I took a small snack with me and finished the left over work I had to finish until a day after tomorrow. Yeah yeah you'll call me a work freak but I like to finish stuff earlier than expected.'
After finishing and reviewing I sent it through Email.
I was done for today with work. I decided to watch a lecture on Islam as I usually did in my free time.
Just when I was about to finish the lecture I heard a knock on my door.
"Come in." I said.
"AssalamoAlaikum, LAILAH."
"WaalaikumAssalam, Ukhti. I have told you so many times not to knock, just enter." I said in a fake anger.
"Ooh, girl, don't kill me, please!" she said.
'I'm here to talk to you about something." I nodded for her to continue.
I want to...
I can't say it... It's..."
