A/N: This is a continuation of the flashback in the last chapter.

_______________

"The names Laxus-"  the spiky-haired blonde teen said, tossing his jacket over the frail bluenette's shoulders

Vyra blinked, the warmth of the jacket immediately comforting her. She looked rough—dirt smeared on her ripped clothes, exposing more of her stomach than she'd have liked. Her body ached from the injuries she had sustained during the escape.

Laxus glanced at her, noticing her condition. He wasn't the most expressive guy, but he wasn't heartless. He did what any decent person would do.

"You got a name, or...?" he asked lazily, glancing down at the silent girl walking beside him along the sidewalk

Vyra remained quiet, her gaze locked on the ground. She was more than worried—she was terrified. What was going to happen now? She had fled the only place she'd ever known, leaving everything behind... including her best friend.

The thought of Erik hit her hard. Forget about Jellal; leaving Erik was what crushed her. What if he had come with her? Would they both be safe? She doubted it, but the guilt weighed heavy on her chest.

In truth, Erik was right. What now?  Vyra hadn't thought this far ahead.

"Not much of a talker, huh? I hear you..." Laxus said, hands shoved into his pockets.

Vyra took this time to analyze the teen next to her.

His face was calm, his posture relaxed and he had this aloof air about him, like nothing could faze him. He seemed so cool, like someone who had everything under control... something Vyra definitely didn't.

"I'm taking you to my guild," Laxus finally spoke up, breaking the silence

"They're a rowdy bunch, but you'll be safe there."

The words caught Vyra off guard.

Safe?

It almost seemed foreign to her.

Could she really trust this guy? Yet, there was something in his tone. Something genuine.

"I-I... Umm..." Vyra tugged on his sleeve, her voice barely a whisper as she stared down at the ground in embarrassment

Laxus glanced down at her, surprised. She looked up at him with big, teary eyes, her hand resting on her tattooed cheek, her body language speaking volumes more than her words could.

Laxus was silent for a moment, trying to understand her. When he finally did, he let out a low chuckle, shaking his head.

"Don't worry, kid," he said softly

"I got a person for that."

"Woah..." Vyra breathed, her voice filled with awe as she stared at herself in the mirror. Her fingers gingerly poked at her face, pulling on her cheeks to confirm it was real.

Her mark... it was gone. Completely.

The overwhelming relief washed over her as she smiled faintly, turning her face side to side. No one would be able to recognize her now, especially not those soldiers.

The resemblance between her and Jellal was undeniable, and anyone could easily connect the dots if they saw her with the mark.

I'm not going back there. I'm NEVER going back again.
