In struggle give thanks, for God is the one who is getting you through it. You can never stray from Him. He lives inside us. He gave us a choice. Are we going to live in him?
When we look at a sacrifice we might have to make, imagine yourself witnessing Jesus carrying the 300 pound cross up the tall, steep hill. When you do this you feel bad about your struggle because it seems microscopic compared to His misery, but that's not what He wants us to feel.
The One and only God, the Lord, the Savior picked up that cross with us in mind. He started his mission on earth to finish with us as His reward. Just as you start a stressful homework assignment to finish with a good grade. Just as you start a race to finish. Just as you lose your loved ones to see them again in heaven, where they are joyful and grateful forever. Your Lord carried that cross, so that we would enter His Kingdom and during those struggles and trials, He could be walking beside you with the weight of your sins on His back.
God loves you, so much that he suffered through humanity for you. What He is challenging us to do is to suffer for him. The devil wants us to suffer. Not God. He just allows it, because He knows we can see Him through it to reach joy. A joy stronger than suffering. A joy that can, will and has crushed the devil. A joy that is everlasting.
