Being afraid was something Madeline never experienced. She always knew that she'd overcome any difficulties that she faced, especially when she was attacked by a fire-breathing dog on her tenth birthday. Her Father told her that it had something to do with her Mother, and Madeline had to say she wasn't surprised.Everything that made Madeline special was inherited from her Mother, like her short-temper or her fierce yet elegant attitude, or her black as night hair or ghostly pale skin. The strange thing was that her Mother left before she was born, and Madeline only knew what she looked like from a small polaroid of her mother in a white satin dress on a balcony with a pomegranate tree spiralling around the rail. It meant the world to her, just like the dagger she received on her thirteenth birthday. It had a golden glow to it, and engraved on the handle was a beautiful turquoise peacock feather. It was a gift from her Mother, so she always kept it close, and it saved her life many times.
But what Madeline wishes for every birthday, is to know who her Mother is. She doesn't care if she's a homeless drunk, or in the mafia, she just wants to meet her Mother. On her fourteenth birthday, her wish comes true, but not how Madeline expected it. When a crazy cult of cyclops crash her party, her Father desperately tells his daughter the truth and that if she wants to survive, she'll need to go to Camp Halfblood.
