Immortality.

To live forever.

Is such a feat even possible? What does it truly mean to be immortal?

Since the beginning of existence, our universe has learned the power of balance. For what is life without death? Chaos without order? Light without the dark.

One cannot exist without the other, and thus, a perfect gift cannot exist without consequence. Immortality cannot exist without pain. Not physical pain... No, that would be too easy. The heart and mind are fragile things, just one small push can break them. And though immortality may erase all fear of death, it cannot, and most certainly does not, erase the only small piece of humanity left: emotion.

An end is one thing that mortals have that immortals never can. They will never be forced to sit back and watch as everything they once knew suffers and withers and dies. Instead, their souls will frolic blissfully, ignorant to the passage of time. In that moment, as their souls leave their bodies, they know true peace.

Such anguish is a right reserved for only the selfish
