The next morning came too soon. I wasn’t ready to start school.

I got dressed in a comfortable long-sleeved shirt, skinny jeans, and high top vans. I put on my favorite hoodie. I got my bookbag before going downstairs.

When I reached the kitchen, I saw Bella eating a bowl of cereal. For some reason, I was never a big breakfast person. When she finished she asked, “Are you ready to go?”

“I guess”

“It will be fine, Aussie.”

I never said anything but shrugged.

When we got in the truck and she started it, it came to life like a dinosaur. I cracked a small grin.

“Not a word Aussie, not one word”

“I didn’t say anything.”

She gave me a look while I smiled innocently at her.

When we pulled into the school, I didn’t like the stares we were getting. When Bella and I got out I shrunk into myself.

“Nice ride” said a guy.

Since Bellla doesn’t understand sarcasm, she said, “Thanks”

She came around to my side and put an arm around me. I whispered to her, “That was sarcasm”

She looked crestfallen.

We finally came to the office. When we walked up to the counter Bella cleared her throat slightly.

“We’re Isabella and Austen Swan”

“Oh, the chief’s daughters”

The receptionist started looking for our paperwork.

She found it and she showed us a map of the school and the best way to get to our classes. Bella and I compared our schedules. Thankfully, we have every class together. Our first class was English. I wasn’t looking forward to meeting new people.

By lunch time, I’ve had two small panic attacks. Some teachers made Bella and I introduce ourselves.

In Gym, we had to play volleyball and she hit a boy in the back of the head, making me giggle. That’s where we met Mike Newton and Jessica Stanley. I always thought Newton was a type of fish honestly.

I was walking with Mike, Jesscia, and Bella to the table as we carried our trays. Suddenly, Eric appears and squishes himself in between Bella and I.

“Mike, I see you’ve met my homegirls Bella and Austen.”

“Your home girls?”

“My girls” said Tyler as he pecked mine and Bella’s cheeks and he pulled Mike’s chair from under him and they ran.

“It’s the first grade all over again, and you’re the shiny new toys”

We both smile awkwardly. A flash then went off which blinds me slightly. I rubbed my eyes.

“Sorry, needed a candid for the feature”

“Feature’s dead, Angela. Don’t bring it up again. I got your back, girls.”

He patted our shoulders before walking away.

“Guess, we’ll just run another editorial on teen drinking”

“Sorry. There’s always eating disorders-”

“Or speedo padding on the swim team”

“Wait, that’s a good one.”

Angela and Jessica started talking about the paper. I just picked at my school lunch.
