you look in.
it is wide
deep
on going
black as the night sky
it sucks in all life and light around it.
it is the void.
it calls out like a siren.
it is beautiful.
it is serine.
it is.
enticing.
but there is one thing.
the void you see holds none of the things you love
it cannot pull love into its darkness
it knows no music
no art
no beauty
no love.
it can't even look at the light love and beauty radiate.
but yet it still calls.
its song turns to a harsh shriek
its serenity turns to chaos
it shouts your thoughts back at you like painful memories
"remember what she did"
"remember his face"
"remember what you did to yourself"
"you're a monster," it screams
and one day you believe it
convincing yourself that you have an itch this world doesn't have the nails for
you sit on the line dividing the void and the world you've created
dangling your legs off the edge
a figure stands in front you
dressed in a black gown
with white hair down to the small of her back
you lean forward
ready to fall into death's arms.
but nothing happens
something.
someone.
is holding you back
"i can't let you in," hums death
you ask why
she points just behind you
you turn
there
i saw her
i saw him
holding one another
hand in hand
staring
smiling back at me
I got up and walked to stand with them
"i'm not ready for you yet," she calls.
"for right now,"
"they need you"
