The harmonious sound of birds chirping outside of my bedroom window awakened me from my slumber. After saying a quick prayer to thank the Lord for waking me up, I rolled over and grabbed my phone to check the time, which read 7:24. I groaned, because I hate the fact that getting up for class has my body so used to waking up early, even on weekends.

I dragged myself out of bed and to the bathroom, where I performed my morning hygiene routine for the day. Right when I finished, my phone started to ring and I rushed back into my room to answer it.

"Hey Ma." I said as soon as the FaceTime call connected.

"Mornin', Cynny Binny." She smiled, sipping on some coffee. "How was your night?"

"It was fine."

"Do anything exciting?"

"Hung out with Nikki for a little bit." I shrugged.

"Ooo, what did y'all get into?"

"Nothing." I answered sharply, and probably a little sooner than I should have. "I mean...nothing worth having a conversation about."

Technically that's not a lie, being that I barely spent any time with Nikki last night...

"Mhmm,"

"What does that mean?"

"Oh, nothin'." Mommy smiled. "Listen sweetheart, I spoke to Vonte and I asked him to take you out later, maybe to eat or to a movie and he agreed to spend some time with you. I don't know when he's gonna come by, but I thought I'd give you a heads up." She told me.

Oh my God. Oh my God...

"Maaaaa," I whined. "Wh—why would you do that? I mean really, what's up? You don't trust me to take care of myself?"

"Of course you are baby, I know who I raised. I just want you to get out of the house. You know, get some fresh air. All you do is stay in that room with that laptop and that damn phone."

I huffed, but reluctantly agreed to go along with her plan because there's no point in arguing with her.

We talked a little bit more about her job, then said our goodbye's and hung up. Shortly after, Devonte called me. I stared at my phone as the ringtone blared loudly, debating on whether I should answer or not. Of course, I eventually did.

"Hello?" I answered in a sweet tone of voice.

"Yo. Wass good witchu shorty?"

"Nothing." I mumbled, struggling to keep my voice sounding as normal as possible so that Vonte wouldn't be able to sense my growing excitement.

"Yo moms wants me to take you out, but I got some shit to do later, so I'm on the way now. You dressed?"

"Nah." I said.

"Get dressed. Imma be over there in ten."

"Okay."

"Aight." He hung up.

I quickly put on some leggings and a Nike sweatshirt, then slicked down my edges and threw some foam on my feed-ins to make them look neat. I got ready just in time, because right after I put my shoes on, Devonte texted that he was outside. I locked the front door, then walked out to his car, his dark eyes watching every step I took towards him.

"Hey." I gave him a small smile as I climbed in his truck.

"Wassup." He nodded, giving me a quick once-over.

"Where to?" I questioned.

"You hungry?"

I nodded my head yes.
