Every night i check,
For the monsters in my closet.
I search under my bed,
For a vicious beast.

Lock the doors,
Double-check.
I’ve done this every night,
Since before I was ten.

No sleep until
I’m sure they’re not here.
Gotta keep them away.
Keep the monsters at bay.

But I’m not quite sure,
That the monsters lurk there anymore.
Recently, i’ve started to wonder,
If the monsters live somewhere else.

Maybe the greatest monster of all,
Inhabits the confines,
Of my own mind,
Maybe, the monster is me.

It lurks and it prowls.
With no desire to get out.
It wants me, it’s got me.
It won’t let go.
